AWT Topic - Competitive games in school should be banned. Games like races, musical chairs create a
spirit of competition and inculcates a win lose attitude in children. They start seeing everyone as
enemies and believe that they always have to defeat someone to win. Instead of competitive,
collaborative sports should be played. Competition does not create a character worthy of role model.

Me: more greenery and renewable sources of energy...

energy from nuclear fission and efforts are made to use fusion reactions as well. So I believe in near
future we can lead on both our industrial and environmental fronts.

addicted to smoking and then where is the choice? Do you know about e-cigarettes? Are they less
harmful? Say we stop the cigarette market altogether, what would happen to the revenue? How do
you find your current job now? You have learnt so much. Then why do you want to do MBA now? You
have worked only for 7 months. Why not continue at ITC? Tell me the current share price of ITC. (The
interviewer handed a paper to the candidate). Please draw here how the share price varied over the
past 1 year. When was GST implemented? You have shown that the price increased after that. Why
did it increase? How have the share prices been affected over the past 1 week? Tell us about VIT. How
was life there? (The candidate mentioned about playing football) So you were a player as well as a
manager? So you mentioned that you have a multicultural team. How did you manage? Did they know
English? Why would they come over to study in India? So there were no Chinese members in your
football team? Oh, but they are proficient coders. Are they not? Okay, coming back to ITC. Tell me
what you have you learnt there? Tell me one instance when you dealt with something and you learnt
and gained a lot from that experience. So it turned out okay in the end? But don’t you have a boss

Today's advertisers direct their products towards children. Do you think advertisement plays a
negative role in the growth and development of children?

Wrote in favour of advertisers impacting the children positively and how adds can be innovative to
achieve that. Also, acknowledged the negative impact and what can be done to reduce it, at the end.

I entered and greeted them. Then handed over my PI form as well as my file to P1.
L: Tell me something about yourself
Me: My name is Aditya Ajitsariya. I was born and raised in Guwahati where I completed my schooling.
I graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in 2016. Currently, I am working in my family business
which is a retail proprietary store in the heart of Guwahati. The business deals in hardware and house-
keeping products. My key responsibilities included expanding the current client base by reaching put
to new and prospective clients, simplifying the operations of the warehouse and shouldering the
responsibility for transitioning the entire system from the old taxation system into the GST regime. I
am an avid lover of sports, especially cricket and tennis. In fact, my role model is Sachin Tendulkar and
I have even compiled a book which throws light on his cricketing career and presented the same to
him personally. I wish to pursue my further education in management.
L: Why management career?
Me: Having grown up around a family business, I have had the experience of observing my father run
and operate the business and after me being involved in it since my growing days, I have learnt the
skills of managing people and handling business operations. But since this is a small establishment and
I know that there is a lot that I need to learn so I feel an MBA will help me strengthen my management
skills by providing me an opportunity to interact with the best minds in the country and learn from
industry leaders.
P1 interrupts: This is a very clichéd answer taught to you by coaching institutes
L: You have studied in Xavier’s; you already have been interacting with the best minds.
Me: In an MBA, I will get people from diverse backgrounds. More over after working in the family
business, I believe in order to expand it I need to have the experience of how things are actually carried
out in the industry.
L: Watch Ted Talks, there you will learn from industry leaders
Me: The practical learning which I will be getting in an MBA is more important.
L: You will not learn anything from bottom. They will only talk about top things
Me: But in order to expand it I need to know how to do it properly
L: You are earning XX; if you continue you will earn may be XX.
P1: So, you will not leave the 20 lakh job which you will get after an MBA and join the family business.
Me: If I feel that there is scope for growth in the business, I will not look at the present value of earning
but future potential.
L: There are various family business programs coming up. Are you aware which colleges have it.
Me: SP Jain has a family business programme. And I read yesterday that IIM Calcutta is also starting a
family business programme in partnership with I don’t remember the name, it is TSW I guess
P1: So who will take care of your business in the meantime? God forbid not but anything can happen
Me: I have only been involved in the family business since my graduation and the business has been
running for the past XX years, so I don’t think my going will make much of a difference at least for
some time.

P2: You have studied in Xavier’s. What specialisation did you choose?
Me: Marketing
P2: So Prof. Shivaji must have taught you. He is the HOD right.
Me: Yes, sir he is the HOD

P2: Tell me what steps the government has taken to improve the economy and why has the
government changed in Tripura?
Me: The government has been taking a lot of steps to boost the economy. One of which is the
introduction of GST. GST has been a lot beneficial for businesses because there is one tax across all
the states. Earlier different taxes were there for different states. Now it is easier because it is basically
one nation one tax. Also earlier business had to file different returns like VAT return, excise return,
CST return now they have to only file one return.
P2: We do not have much time say in points. One is GST
Me: Next is the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. They will setup an Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board
of India which will be the regulator. They will try to see that the company does not go out of business,
to initiate a turnaround for business and if not then will lead to faster liquidation process. Earlier it
used to take 4 years for the entire process, now it will take 1 year. Coming to the situation in Tripura,
one of the factors is anti-incumbency. The Communist Party has been in power since the past 25 years.
Also, the fact that BJP is in power in Assam and it is organising events such as Advantage Assam, the
people feel that they will also undertake such events in Tripura which will lead to the overall
development of Tripura.
P2: What is your opinion about the Lenin statue being thrown yesterday in Tripura?
Me: (knew about the news as I had read last night but just the headlines so said that I was not aware
of it since it was in the news only yesterday, to avoid any cross questioning on it because I did not
know about Lenin and his ideologies)
P2: I am telling you the news. The governor of Tripura supported it and even Rajnath Singh was
involved. Do you know who Rajnath Singh is?
Me: Yes sir, the home minister of India
P2: Now tell me about your opinion.
Me: Sir I not aware of the story
P2: What about Meghalaya?
Me: Conrad Sangma has been sworn in as the chief minister of Meghalaya. He is from NPP. NPP, BJP
along with other regional parties will be forming the government.
P1: These Sangma brothers all are from same political parties.
Me: No sir, the earlier chief minister Mukul Sangma was from Congress but Conrad Sangma is from
NPP.
L: Okay, you did your specialisation in marketing and you said you like tennis.
Me: Yes
L: So as a marketing manager, how do you think Wimbledon went? Was it good or bad?
Me: (enquired whether she wanted me to answer as a marketing manager of Wimbledon or what?)
L: Just as a general marketing manager, what do you think?
Me: I think it was good.
L: Why?
Me: Roger Federer won Wimbledon and since he won the tournament, he attracted crowds till the
end of the tournament. Wherever he goes, given his fan following, he attracts a large crowd.
L: Don’t tell me as a fan, tell me as a marketing manager how it could have been improved?

The interview started with some general questions followed by some tricky questions on my work
experience and profile diversity and finally few question based on my engineering background.

The interview was a bit surprising for me as I was expecting more questions based on my engineering
studies and I had prepared well for the same but it seems like the panelists were well aware of this
and thus the interview took a whole different path.

P1: Have a seat. You must be really tired of waiting for so long.

Me: No sir I think it is a part of the process so it’s ok. I was rather enjoying the campus and I clicked
few photographs too. (Hell yeah I was tired, I wanted to get it over with more than anything else ASAP)

P1: So, tell me something about yourself. (P1 constantly reading through my form like he was trying
to find something to dig upon)

Me: Told about my hometown, Academic Background, internships at Carrier Corporation and Rakshak
Foundation, and finally my work experience at Government of India.

(As I mentioned Rakshak foundation, P2 who wasn’t even looking at me by now started taking interest
in the conversation and as I finished, he starting firing questions at me)

P2: Ohh!! You worked at Rakshak Foundation. What was your role?

Me: I was a part of research team that was working on Indian Traditional Knowledge and I was working
under the guidance of Prof. Rajesh. *Told more about my role*

P2: Do you know the headquarters of this foundation?

Me: Yes sir, it is in California.

P2: Why did you take this internship? I know student’s notion of joining an NGO just to increase the
weight of their profile while they actually don’t have any such intention of helping people.

(Here the grilling process begins. I quickly analyzed that he is pretending to be angry just to see how I
react. From my research on IIM interviews I was already aware that I would be put under pressure
during the interview to assess my pressure handling abilities.)

Me: Sir, yes you are right that many students join NGO with a simple purpose of getting extra score
for their profile though they have no intention to help the society but I am not like most students.

(He gave me a serious look now as if he was about to say that everyone says this but I kept on going)

I always had a soft corner towards people and wanted to help them. I was also a part of NSS during
my college where we conducted various awareness drives.

Moreover, I never even thought of joining any Business school when I started this internship and even
one year after my graduation. I always aspired to be an IAS officer and the UPSC fever was very high
at that time.

(Later I realized I should not have mentioned UPSC.)

P2: So, you were preparing for UPSC. Why did you leave your preparation and what made you turn
towards MBA?

Me: (Trying to be brief as I didn’t want it to be brought up)

I was preparing for SSC CGL exam in parallel with the UPSC. Though I didn’t put the best of my efforts
in SSC preparation but I was lucky and prepared enough to get the AAO post through SSC CGL while I
couldn’t make it through UPSC mains. I decided to take up the job and simultaneously look for other
options.

While working as an Assistant Audit Officer, I was swamped with business and finance related work
which shaped my interest in it. I always loved playing with numbers but when the real money is
involved it becomes much more interesting. I want to dig deep into it and learn more about this
finance world.

I believe in today’s world, a specialization in your field is really important. Now that I developed my
interest in finance, I wish to start a career in the corporate world that would give me exposure to non-
governmental businesses also after doing a post graduation that is most relevant to my [Link],
before i start my journey in the corporate world, I want to learn formal business practices and get the
bundled wisdom in these 2 years through courses and highly experienced faculty. This is why I turned
towards MBA.

P2: So, getting a job in audit department made you forget about your IAS aspiration?

(Oh god! Why did I even bring it up? Now, I am constantly thinking of how I can divert their attention
to some other topic)

Me: No sir, I would say it was just the change of interest. I always wanted to be an IAS officer and I still
do, but working a couple of years in this job, having analyzed few businesses in and out, I have realized
that this is something I love and could do passionately for my lifetime.
(He seemed to be unconvinced but I wanted to be very brief about it)

P2: So, you are an Assistant Audit Officer. What is your role in the whole audit process?

Me: My role is to assist the Audit Officer or the Senior Audit Officer in auditing the accounts of Central
Government, State Government and Public Sector Undertakings. Here, we look at finance,
performance and compliance related aspects in the reports and we also look after the disbursing
process of LTC, Medical claims and child education claims.

P2: Ok! So tell me, What is the difference between audit and investigation?

Me: (I was blank for a while. I didn’t know how to respond to this question. After being blank for about
10-15 sec I said what came to my mind in the first place. Note: 10-15 seconds seems a lot longer time
when three people who are already judging you see you struggling with the answers.)

Sir, Intention is the difference. In audit, you try to find the authenticity of the data and in investigation
to try to figure out the faults in the data.

(He looked at me and smiled. I thought I messed it up but the answer is very near to what I said and
maybe this is the reason they didn’t grill me on this.)

(I can’t mention some question of this conversation because of its confidentiality. I also refused to
answer few (1 -2) of their questions point-blank because of the same reason.)

P3: What other calls do you have?

P3: ok Parmesh. You are from Jaipur. So, what is Jaipur famous for?

Me: Told about the Pink city, rich history, Rajputana Mehals.

P3. Can you tell any famous personality from Jaipur?

Me: Yes sir. Irfan Khan, Vasundhra Raje, Ila Arun, Pratibha singh Patel, Asrani.

P3: Do you know any sportsperson from Jaipur?

Me: Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Puneet yadav, Devendra Jhanjharia.

It was a wonderful and enriching experience sir. I got a chance to study with the best brains and from
the best faculties. I have learnt a lot of things from there and I was also a part of an Artificial
Intelligence and Robotics project.

Me: Sir, it is easy to believe that Artificial intelligence is taking over the world and in 10-15 years down
the line it will cut human work force by 50 - 60% but saying that AI will completely take over human
intelligence is baseless and holds no water.
Consider an example of Deepmind, a subsidiary of google which created an AI that defeated the world
champion at the most complicated board game. People are going ga-ga about the AI beating a
champion in his game.

Deep down we all know that Humans are the one that created technology which means AI would
always have an upper limit that is the Humans. Moreover, Artificial intelligence is good at processing
data but bad at thinking in abstract.

Like, if you talk about this Deepmind AI, this is no different than other computer software. The
developer has filled it with every move that has been seen by now but the very moment a human
mind comes up with a new move, AI would be clueless.

There was an intro session by the SIBM director who mentioned that they are bringing back the system
of reject list. So at the end of the process there will be an Admit list, await list and reject list (last year
there was only admit list and wait list)
GROUP EXERCISE (PUZZLE):
Students were divided in groups of 7 and was assigned a group coordinator.
The group was taken to a classroom, and at first we had the GE 1 which was solving a puzzle. There is
rectangular box assigned to each person, in which you need to fit in all the pieces given to you. There
is an initial piece fixed for each person and you cannot alter the position of that piece (the fixed piece
was different for each person. Later on we discovered that the pieces assigned to each one was
different as well)
Each person has to solve it within 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes, if there are unsolved puzzles in the
group, you can work as a team to solve the unsolved ones. The team effort can last only 10 minutes.
Our group managed to solve only two puzzle out of the assigned 7.

WAT:
Then it was the WAT. They showed a 15s video without any audio, wherein a man was seen getting
dressed up in formal attire, and at the end it shows a guy closing the coffin in which the man was lying.
We were asked to write a short note ( in around 100 words) to summarise the scene in your own way,
and also write a title for the summary.

GROUP EXERCISE (CASE STUDY):

This was followed by GE 2 which was basically the case study. It was about the owner of a
confectionery shop that is popular in the south, and wants to expand his business in north India. There
were several constraints given like lack of enthusiasm among employees, even regarding the site
where they wanted to set up the new factory. There was a total of 15 minutes to read the case and
also to Carry out a healthy discussion

PI Experience:
Last was the PI.
Just outside the PI room, we were given chits with two alternatives. You had to chose either one, and
go inside and justify your choice in front of the panel for two minutes(you cannot choose both, or
bring in any other option apart from the given two)

For me it was, whether you would talk with your past or with your future if you were given 10 minutes
to interact with either of them. The topic for my friend was "whether you would like to have many
friends who know less about you, or, less friends who know more about you?
The PI began with the customary "tell me something about yourself" question. It was mostly driven
by the info given in the snap C form. I had mentioned quizzing and tennis in it. So got certain questions
in that regard. Then they asked about the recent incident wherein engineers and MBA grads had
applied for the post of sweeper in TN. This was diverted to the "why MBA/ Management " and "what
specialisation are you looking for" questions. Then they asked about what i had been doing all this
while since graduation.
Then was the main part, wherein they gave a few situations and I was asked as to how I would react
in those situations. The situations were mostly based on ethics, as to whether you would stick to ethics
or be pragmatic. The conversation ended up with a question on your role model and the reason as to
why you idolize that person
It was a good experience overall, but the process was a bit lengthy this time. The reporting time was
1:00 pm and got over only by 7pm.

was a child holding an paper aeroplane against the setting sun. There were specific instructions that
the wat should be written correlating both the pictures.

A video was shown. We were asked to discuss what we thought the video wanted to depict. In the
end, we had to present it on the white board. It was a group activity.

Later there was a GD&GE. GD (Is India overqualified or underemployed?) Had 2 mins prep time and
12 mins discussion.

Right after the GD was the GE with same panel and students. The task for GE was to create an inventive
sport for the visually impaired. Name of the sport, objects required to play the sport, team size where
some things which were to be decided as a group. GE again had a 2min prep with 10 mins discussion
and then 5 mins for presentation.

Last of the processes was the PI.

Questions on how was my work, what did I do there, one thing you would like to change at the work
environment. Then question about my BE final year project (in details) were asked. A question on why
not continue in the industry for another year and then do an MBA. Another question was about an
incident at work which I failed at. The last question was about locating to Pune (would it be a problem).
The interview was more of a conversation.

Started off with a question on my moustache, asking which Bollywood actor portraits a moustache
similar to mine?
Which stream I had completed my engg? Name one international company dealing in electronics
who is facing an issue? (I had no idea, the company is Toshiba)
Name one domestic company dealing in electronics?
Who is the chairperson of L&T? (I had no idea)
What does your father do?
How have you helped him in the business?(I answered in the supply of goods)
Name one industry which would be completely dependant on supply chain operations in the near
future?(I answered food industry). He seemed satisfied with the answer.
Later the man proposed a theory where he said "it is said that a person should spend an hour daily
with a person who is 65+ and also an hour with a child who is around 9-10 years old" Could you explain
the reason behind this?
Some more discussion around this.
Then he said the word "Shringar-ras" and its relation with politics.
The above questioning was done completely by the male. (The man tends to converse in Hindi very
often)
Later he said the woman to continue.
She started with "you seem to be interested in sports, tell me what is the height of the basketball net
from the ground?"(I did not know)
"Ok, what is the height of the net in an badminton court?"
I answered in metres which she asked me later to convert to feet.
Later she asked me about the bracelet on my wrist (she did not seem to like it) and indirectly said
that it shouldn't have been worn.

se but IITB me aate hai . They joked about that panther thing and havan culture.

Overall they were trying to grill and push me but I kept my composure and had a happy face

in probability, were you able to identify the pattern/guess the probability as well?
