Types of sentences according to their structure.
1)SIMPLE SENTENCES: Consists of one independent clause(a complete thought with a
subject and verb).
.EXAMPLE :The cat slept on the couch".
2)COMPOUND SENTENCE: Contains two or more independent clauses joined by a comma and
a coordinating
conjunction(FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or a
semicolon(;).
.EXAMPLE: The cat slept on the couch, but the dog ran outside".
3)COMPLEX SENTENCE: Contains one independent clause and at least one dependent
(subordinate) clause, which
cannot stand alone.
.EXAMPLE: "Because it was raining, we stayed inside".
4)COMPOUND-COMPLEX: Combines a compound and a complex sentence, containing two or
more independent clauses and at least
one dependent clause.
.EXAMPLE: "Although it was raining, I went to the store, and I bought some
milk".
