Mathematics-1(BT-102)

1. Define Vector Space with example.

2. State and prove any three properties of Vector space.
3. If W1 and W2 are subspaces of a vector space V(F), then 𝑾𝟏 ∩ 𝑾𝟐 is also a subspace of V(F).
4. Union of two subspace of vector space is a subspace if and only if one is contained in the other.
5. Let 𝑾 = {(𝒂𝟏 , 𝒂𝟐 , 𝒂𝟑 ): 𝒂𝟏 , 𝒂𝟐 , 𝒂𝟑 ∈ 𝑭 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝟏 + 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒂𝟑 = 𝟎}. Show that W is a subspace of V3(F).

17. Examine whether the following set of vectors is linearly dependent or not in V3(R), where R is the
field of real numbers:

(i) {(1, 2,1), (3, 1, 5), (3, -4, 7)} (ii) {(1, 2,3), (1, 0, 1), (0, 1, 0)}

18. Prove that the necessary and sufficient condition for a non-empty subset W of a vector space V(F)
to be a vector subspace of V is 𝒂, 𝒃 ∈ 𝑭 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝜶, 𝜷 ∈ 𝑾 ⇒ 𝒂𝜶 + 𝒃𝜷 ∈ 𝑾.
