STANDARD PROCEDURE: MAKING RICE

1. Ingredients

• 1 cup rice (white or basmati)

• 2 cups water

• 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

• 1 teaspoon oil or butter (optional)

2. Equipment Required

• Cooking pot with lid

• Measuring cup

• Stove or induction cooktop

• Strainer (for washing rice)

3. Procedure

1 Measure 1 cup of rice.

2 Wash the rice under running water until the water runs clear.

3 Add 2 cups of water to the pot.

4 Add salt and oil (optional).

5 Bring the water to a boil on medium heat.

6 Once boiling, reduce heat to low and cover with lid.

7 Cook for 12–15 minutes until water is absorbed.

8 Turn off heat and let it rest covered for 5 minutes.

9 Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

4. Notes

• Water ratio may vary depending on rice type.


• For brown rice, use 2.5 cups water and cook 30–35 minutes.

• Ensure lid remains closed during cooking for best results.
