DATA WAREHOUSING FOR BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

All questions carry marks as indicated against them.

1. (a) Differentiate between structured, unstructured and semi-structured data. Provide


examples of each type and discuss their relevance in digital environments.

(b) Illustrate the following data analytics techniques with suitable examples :
= Prescriptive Analytics.

2. (a) An insurance company, with branches all over the country, wants to develop
a data warehouse for effective decision-making about their insurance policies.
There are several different types of insurance like Auto insurance, Home
insurance, Industrial insurance, etc. The entire country is categorized into four
regions, namely, North, South, East and West. Each region consists of a
set of states. There may be different types of customers like individuals,
institutions, industry, etc. The data warehouse should record an entry for
each policy issued to each customer along with the premium paid.
With respect to the above use case, answer the following questions.
Necessary assumptions can be made to support your answer :
(i) Design a star schema for the data warehouse clearly identifying
the fact table(s), dimensional table(s), their attributes and measures
along with the primary key and foreign key relationships.

(ii) Write an SQL query by which you can display region - wise,
insurance - type - wise, year - wise total premium collected from your
schema.
(iii) Draw possible concept hierarchies for each dimension.

(b) Give suitable examples for Additive, Semi-Additive and Non-Additive Facts
in Fact table of a data warehouse. 4(CO1)

3. (a) Explain the concept of data profiling in the context of schema integration.
How can data profiling tools assist in understanding the structure and content

(b) Narrate the impact of incomplete data on data quality with suitable example.
What strategies can be employed to address and mitigate issues related
to incomplete data in a data warehouse ? 5(CO2)

4. (a) Define Business Intelligence architecture and explain its key components. How
does BI architecture support the process of transforming raw data into meaningful
insights for decision-making ? 6(CO3)

Explain how these KPIs contribute to successful project delivery.

finance and marketing. Provide specific examples of how organizations in these
