Question : Explain why a teacher would use analysis of retell, miscues, cloze to evaluate pupils reading.

Retells definition: Provides valuable information about literacy development Teacher can evaluate pupil prior knowledge, knowledge of text structure, language features of specific text types. To carry out, teacher tells story to pupils and they retell a friend or onto a tape, using pictures as guide, etc.

Miscues Cloze It can be used as a teaching strategy to encourage pupil to use differebt cueing system and to evaluate comprehension. Eg: Adli drove down the road. His children were arguing as usual(meaningful replacement and show pupil understand the text) By analysing errors made, teacher can discover why they were made. They give clues, a pupil are using or not using Not using meaning to decode If the miscue does not affect the meaning, it can be a positive miscues.

Conclusion Teacher would use analysis of retell, miscues and cloze to evaluate pupils reading and to prepare the lesson, evaluate, producing appropriate activity and guidance.
