Project YES!!! is a collaborative initiative between the Shiloh Comprehensive Community Center and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated to provide project-based learning activities, life skills training, and business experience to underserved middle and high school youth in the Augusta, Georgia area. The program will operate weekdays from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Shiloh Center and various other locations, with some evening and weekend sessions, starting in June 2007. Its goals are to improve academic performance, encourage higher education and career opportunities, and provide positive activities for youth.

What will the program do?

The program will provide project based learning activities (academic tutoring, mentoring
and computer based learning and the availability of a learning facility and equipment) for
students.
• Implement a dual track system that involved middle and high school youth.
• Provide life skills training.
• Present a business phase supported by small business owners.

Who will be targeted?

Participants are youth in the Augusta, Georgia area.

Participants are principally recruited from:


• Lucy Laney, T.W. Josey and ARC.
• Murphy and Tubman Middle Schools.

Other participants may be recruited by community leaders, civic organizations and/or


churches.

Participants are selected on the basis of the following:


• Attitude
• Academic needs
• Socio-economic risk of the communities
• Recommendation of school personnel
• A desire to succeed in higher education or the business world.
Why is this project needed?

The mission is to provide options and directions to middle and high school underserved
youth.

The program is dedicated to:


• Instill ability and socio-economic opportunity to cause positive changes in
communities
• Increase the academic level in schools
• Increase positive peer influence as students

Expected outcomes include


• Providing positive activities during “Critical Time” after school and the summer
• Instilling academic and community pride
• Providing exposure to colleges/university, trade schools, small businesses and
models

Where will project/program operate?

The majority of the project will be facilitated at Shiloh Comprehensive Community


Center.

Learning activities will take place at:


• College, Universities, Trade Schools
• Small Businesses
• Correctional Facilities

The entrepuneral phase will be provided with support of small business owners.

Hours & Days of Operation?

• 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Monday through Thursday


• Academic, awareness, intervention trips will be held on Fridays or Saturdays
• Learning sessions will typically occur Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM

When will the project start?

The initial start date is slated for June 2007 and continues on an annual basis.
