School Location Choices for Film Production

The document summarizes the locations used for a student film production, including a high school classroom, corridors, and staff room. The high school setting was chosen to realistically portray two boys in detention, and to subvert expectations of typical action films by using a school environment. The classroom was used to start the film in a typical detention setting, while the narrow corridors added difficulty for fight scenes and humorous escapes. The staff room provided a calm contrast to the chaotic corridors.

Location Notes Location Used: For the location of our production we decided to use one main location, a high

school. Within the school we used three main locations, one being a classroom, the second being the corridors of the school and lastly the staff room. Why did we use this location: We felt this location was appropriate for the production as we were filming two boys in detention and we wanted a realistic setting of a school based environment. During our research stage we found many comedies have been set in school based environments, such as Superbad and Kick-Ass although this is not the case for action films. We challenged the conventions of typical action films, which tend to be set in rough environments. School classroom Our production is based to start in the school classroom; this is a typical environment for students to be put in for detention, we felt this was an appropriate choice with good lighting.

School corridor The production eventually escalates into the main school, we show the students in the corridors continuing their play fight. The corridor eventually turns into the main location. The corridors are narrow making many difficult escapes for the boys, which create amusing situations.

Staff Room We felt it was appropriate to show a staff room in the production as it broadens our location within the school; it enabled us to show binary opposites within the production as we see the staff room as being a calm environment whereas the corridors are full of chaos with the boys continuing their play fight.
