San Juan is the capital and most populous municipality in Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 395,326 making it the 46th-largest city under the jurisdiction of the United States. San Juan was founded by Spanish colonists in 1521, who called it Ciudad de Puerto Rico ("Rich Port City"). Puerto Rico's capital is the second oldest European-established city in the Americas, after Santo [5] Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. Several historical buildings are located in San Juan; among the most notable are the city's former defensive forts, Fort San Felipe del Morro and Fort San Cristbal, and La Fortaleza, the oldest executive mansion in continuous use in the Americas

LANGUAGE Since April 1991, the Castilian is the only official language of the island, displacing theEnglish, who until then was co-official. Puerto Ricans speak a dialect, a mixture of English and Spanish (Spanglish). CURRENCY The official currency is the U.S. dollar (USD). A USD worth 100 cents. There are coins of 1,5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and $ 1. Bills 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars.

Flag description

DESCRIPTION The current flag of Puerto Rico was officially adopted in 1922. The flag is similar to the flag of Cuba, as both were designed at the same time. The red stripes are symbolic of the "blood" that nourishes the three branches of its government; Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. The white stripes represent individual liberty and the rights that keep the government in balance. The blue triangle stands for the "Republican Government", represented by the three branches, and the white Lone Star represents "The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico."
