Sustainable development Definitions:Sustainable development, according to the World Commission on Environment and De velopment, is "development that meets the

needs of the present without compromis ing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Sustainable development also balances social, economic and environmental needs, both for present and future generations, simultaneously achieving a vibrant econ omy, social progress and better environmental quality, locally, nationally and i nternationally, through the efforts of the community and the Government. The concept of sustainability development requires a change of midset to bring a bout full integration of the needs for economic and social development keeping t he environment conservation thoroughly in mind. Sustainable development means finding ways to increase prosperity and improve th e quality of life while reducing overall pollution and waste; meeting our own ne eds and aspirations without doing damage to the prospects of future generations; and reducing the environmental burden we put on our neighbours and helping to p reserve common resources. So, what we should do:1. Find ways to improve the quality of environment while reducing overall pollu tion and waste; 2. Implement, maintain and improve the environmental management and development process; 3. Focus on society matters, policy formation and communications; 4. Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations; 5. Help to improve the environment performance of the organization 6. Influence community, corporate and regulatory attitudes and practices in rel ation to sustainability 7. Promote national excellence in environmental engineering How to continue and apply the principles of sustainable development and environm ental responsibility:1. Learn the knowledge in new envriomental technologies and update myself the la test sustainable develeopment guidelines; 2. Promote the goal of sustainable development through the promotion of improved environmental practice and performance; 3. Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations; 4. Design the systems adopting green approaches, considering energy saving, effi ciently and effectively to minimize environmental impacts; 5. Help to improve the enviromental performance of the organization; 6. Use less paper, print both sides or use electronic file instead to reduce the environmental burden in company.
