Management Of Subgingivally fractured tooth: A Multidisciplinary Approach
Introduction:The interdisciplinary treatment is becoming an ever-increasing part oI modern-day
endodontic practice. Attempts to expose the Iracture line by alveolar re-contouring and
periodontal procedures may compromise the Iunctional root length and [Link]
orthodontic extrusion is considered as the treatment oI choice.
Case Description: A Iemale patient presented with a subgingivally Iractured maxillary lateral
incisor with a history oI trauma 6 months back. AIter Root Canal Treatment the tooth was
extruded orthodontically to expose the Iracture margin. The post endodontic restoration
comprised oI a Iiber post & core and a PFM crown.
Discussion: Subgingivally Iractured incisors posed a true therapeutic dilemma to the dental
team. The Iracture oI the crown oI the tooth extended below the alveolar crest and the tooth was
saved through an endodontic-orthodontic approach.
Conclusion: Controlled orthodontic extrusion to expose the Iracture line produced excellent
results with a good prognosis and a low risk oI relapse.
