Homework: Hyperbole
Hyperbole figurative language in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect
For example: Im so hungry, I could eat an elephant.
Part 1: For the following sentences, explain why each is a hyperbole and what it really means or
shows.
For example:
If I dont get invited to the party, Im going to die! This is a hyperbole because the person would not
literally die if he or she were not invited to the party (1 point). This shows how badly the person wants
to go (1 point).
1. My sister uses so much makeup that she broke the chisel trying to get it off last night.
2. I think of you a million times a day.
3. My mother is so tall, she looks down at the giraffes at the zoo.
4. It was so cold last winter, even the polar bears were wearing coats.
5. Texas is so flat, you can see your dog run away for three days before he is out of sight.
