This document shows residential building permits issued in Montgomery County, Maryland from 1981 to 2006, broken down by unit type - single-family detached, single-family attached (townhouses and 2-3-4 family units), and multi-family units. In the early 1980s, single-family detached units made up around 30-40% of permits while attached units were around 40-50% and multi-family units were 20-30%. Over time, the percentage of multi-family units increased, making up over 40% of permits in the 1990s and over 50% in the 2000s, while the percentage of detached and attached single-family units decreased.
