What Does PLC Stand For?

This document discusses using a programmable logic controller (PLC) to control the pressure of a boiler compressor in a thermal power plant. Typically relay-based control systems with many wires are used, which are difficult to modify. A PLC uses ladder logic and requires fewer wires, parts, and labor to implement. It allows for easier diagnostics and modifications to the control program through software. Using a PLC provides benefits like reduced costs, greater reliability, and a more compact design compared to a conventional relay-based control system for complex processes with many input/output instruments like boiler pressure control.

REAL TIME CONTROL OF MOTOR USING PLC

Aim: This project REAL TIME CONTROL OF MOTOR USING PLC is mainly fouced to control the pressure on boiler compressor in thermal power plant using PLC ladder diagram. Introduction: In thermal power plant boiler compressor pressure are controlled by using [Link] using relay means Large amount of work required connecting wires,Difficulty with changes or replacements,Difficulty in finding errors; requiring skillful/experienced work [Link] such things are rectified by using PLC.

With invention of programmable controllers, much has changed in how a process control system is designed. Many advantages appeared. Typical example of control panel with a PLC [Link] we are using 20 relays to control the compressor pressure means 3 or 4 relays only required for PLC to control the compressor pressure.

PLC means that Programmable Logic [Link] is controlled by using ladder logic [Link] thing are rectified by usig PLC,

Compared to a ordinary control system, number of wires needed for connections is reduced by approximately 80%,Diagnostic functions of a PLC controller allow for fast and easy error detection.

Change in operating sequence or application of a PLC controller to a different operating process can easily be accomplished by replacing a program through a console or using PC software (not requiring changes in wiring, unless addition of some input or output device is required). Needs fewer spare parts. It is much cheaper compared to a conventional system, especially in cases where a large number of Input/Output instruments are needed and when operational functions are complex. Reliability of a PLC is greater than that of an electro-mechanical relay or a timer, because of less moving parts. They are compact and occupy less space.
Use of PLC results in appreciable savings in Hardware and wiring cost
