Overview of VANET Concepts

VANETs allow vehicles to communicate with each other and with roadside equipment to provide safety and other services. They are an ad-hoc network without a base station. Position-based routing relies on each node knowing its location to route packets towards the destination. Security issues include authentication, integrity, and authorization of location and forwarding information. Greedy forwarding strategies like most forward within R, nearest with forward progress, and compass routing aim to minimize hops to the destination but can fail if no neighbor is closer to it.
