Goal: Build a relationship

Business professional with shared interest. Not ninjas.

Levinson: "In order to sell a product or service, a company must establish a relationship… It must
build trust and support."

1. Associations/Groups
2. Conference attendee lists
3. LinkedIN

5-step to Proactive Networking:

1. Find Focus to Facilitate Feasibility


a. Who is the best/ideal contact ?
i. Top down (exec) or Bottom up (jr guy)
ii. Potential boss (not most ideal)

2. Setup informational meeting -> succinct message (30 second of "mind-space")


○ Set the stage - "Hi I'm xxx, from xxx, very interested in xxx, got ur info from xxx."

3. Ask for meeting (Outreach, make a clear "Ask" & Make it easy to Say "Yes")
a. Set context & hep
b. Ask for info meeting in person or over phone for short time (20-25min)
i. I'd like to ask you if you could meet 15-20 min, really interested in xxx love to
get your opinion. Also would like to know how you got to where you are
c. Provide an agenda:
i. Strategic discussion (on industry/company/trends)
ii. Personal dialogue
d. Prepare in advance; plan the q's
e. Job
i. In fact I've developed an interest from xxx, been speaking with a few
firms/people,
ii. I know its already 15min, I know you're an extremely busy. As I continue to
speak with people in this industry, would you be open to have me to follow
up with you as opportunities open.
f. Referral
i. As I know you're in xxx so you interact with xxx through xxx, do you know
anyone in that area I can speak with?
g. Follow-up - ? What to write?
i. 24-hr for thank you (not needed)
ii. 4-8 weeks for follow-up (Every 6 wks -optimal)
1) Stay on their mental roll of decks

Everyone likes to help unless they have to make a sacrifice.
