Toyota Tacoma Cruise Control Inspection Guide

The document provides inspection procedures for the actuator control cable in the cruise control system of a 2003 Toyota Tacoma without ETCS-i. It instructs technicians to check that the actuator and control cable are properly installed and connected, that the actuator and bell crank operate smoothly, and that the cable has less than 10mm of freeplay. Too much slack or tightness can cause issues maintaining speed uphill or with idle RPM.

are connected correctly.
(b) Check that the actuator and bell crank operate smoothly.
(c) Check that the cable is not loose or not too tight.
OK:
Freeplay: Less than 10 mm (0.39 in.)
HINT:
If the control cable is very loose, the vehicle’s loss of speed will be large while going uphill.
If the control cable is too tight, the idle RPM will become high.
