Exploring Desert Ecosystems and Life

Deserts have very little precipitation and are typically rocky or sandy with sparse plant and animal life that must adapt to survive in the extreme temperature fluctuations and lack of water. The Mojave Desert spans parts of California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada while the Sahara Desert covers much of North Africa. Common desert animals include bats, jackrabbits and coyotes and plants such as cacti, Joshua trees and poisonous dogbane.
