Seven police agencies in Northern Virginia conducted a saturation patrol on May 22nd to detect and arrest drunk drivers as part of Operation Extra Eyes for DWI's. During 226 vehicle stops that evening, 32 drivers were given sobriety tests and 9 people were ultimately arrested for DWI. A total of 252 summonses and warnings were also issued as a result of the increased enforcement effort.

Media Release- Updated With Results

Even though the weather was far less than desirable on Saturday May 22, 2010 Officers
and Troopers participating in Operation Extra Eyes for DWI’s conducted 226 vehicle
stops.

As a result of those 226 stops, 32 drivers were given field sobriety tests, 9 were
ultimately arrested for DWI, and 252 summonses and warnings were issued.

Operation Extra Eyes for DWI’s

On May 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. seven police agencies from Northern Virginia will team up
in a collaborative effort to conduct saturation patrols to detect and arrest drunk drivers.
Extra Eyes for DWI’s will involve officers and resources from the City of Falls Church
Police, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police, Town of Vienna Police,
County of Fairfax Police, City of Fairfax Police, The United States Park Police and
Troopers from the Virginia State Police.

In the midst of the spring prom and graduation season law enforcement officers from
local, state, regional, and federal agencies will saturate the streets in several Northern
Virginia jurisdictions with personnel specifically targeting drunk drivers. Prior to the start
of the event Debbie Sausville, a M.A.D.D. mother who lost her step-daughter to an
alcohol related crash, will address the officers at a gathering.
*** The media is invited to attend a pre- event briefing located at
Vienna Town Hall 127 Center Street, South, Vienna, Virginia 22180 at
7:00 p.m. on May 22, 2010.
Cruisers from all involved agencies, participating officers and
administrators, and Ms. Sausville from M.A.D.D. will be on hand.
