This document provides symbols and their meanings to use when text coding while reading: the square root symbol indicates agreement; an x indicates disagreement; a question mark indicates something raises a question; a circle indicates confusion; and an asterisk indicates something is important even if the reason why is unclear. The purpose of text coding is to take notes while reading to process and make sense of what was read, which slows down the reading to focus on understanding.
