Advanced Road Design in Civil 3D

This document discusses the road design parameters and earthwork calculations for a rural two-lane road project. The road will have 3.5m traffic lanes with a 0.03m/m crossfall and 3m shoulders with a 0.05m/m crossfall. Cut slopes will be 3:1 and fill slopes will be 4:1. Earthwork calculations show an excess cut of 2%, requiring 69080.49 cubic meters of material to be moved within the site and 2797.74 cubic meters of excess material to be wasted.

1.

Introduction
In this assignment 1 part 2, the road design will done by function Advanced Road Design (ARD) of
Civil 3D which provided by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (SUTS). The vertical road
design is based on the horizontal alignment of the assignment 1 part 1. In the assignment, the coordination
between the vertical and horizontal curve needed to be taken into consideration. The topography of the
design area is consider as rolling which means that the maximum grades for vertical alignment is limited
at 7%. The design parameter of the vertical curve design is based on the lecture notes provided by the
lecturer.
2. Design Parameter
The road designed in this assignment is a rural two way two lane road. The traffic lane of the road will
have the width of 3.5m with the crossfall of 0.03m/m. The shoulder of the road is design to have width of
3m with crossfall of 0.05m/m. The batter slope also been designed to fit the requirement stated which is
3:1 in cut section and 4:1 in fill section. These design parameter stated is to ensure the road will meet the
requirement during the serviceability of the road.
