Multitasking Project Exercise Guide

The document describes an experiment to test working on multiple projects simultaneously versus one at a time. For the first part, the participant must work across three columns, alternating filling in letters, numbers, and Roman numerals from top to bottom. For the second part, the participant must finish one column before moving to the next. The goal is to see how much work is accomplished in 15 seconds for each part while being timed.

You are a team member on three different projects (A, B and C).

Project A is about you writing the letters

A thru J each in their own separate space under the column headed Project A.
Project B is about your writing the numbers 1- 10 each in their own separate space under the column
headed Project B.
Project C is about your writing the Roman numbers I - X each in their separate space under the column
headed Project C.
We are going to experiment with your ability to complete your project work. For part one of the experiment
you must work on all three projects simultaneously. So once you write the A under the Project A column
you must next go to the Project B column and write the 1, then go to the Project C column and write the I.
Now you can go back to Project A and write in the next letter, again continuing to Project B and then to
Project C.
In fifteen seconds we will see how much work you accomplish. You will be timed, so do not start
until your timer says 'Go'. You must stop working when your timer says 'Stop'.
Project A
A- J

Project B
1 - 10

Project C
I-X

Now we continue the experiment. Now you can only work on one project at a time. So finish Project A,
then start Project B, then start Project C.
In fifteen seconds we will see how much work you accomplish. You will be timed, so do not start
until your timer says 'Go'. You must stop working when your timer says 'Stop'.
Project A
A- J

Project B
1 - 10

Project C
I-X

Note: Roman Numerals as follow I= 1, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4, V = 5
