Battle of Cowshed Script Analysis

1) Mr. Jones and some men tried to recapture the farm but were attacked by the animals led by Snowball. 2) A battle ensued with pigeons, geese, sheep, and other animals fighting the men. One man was killed accidentally by Boxer. 3) The animals chased the men out of the farm. They later held a funeral for the animals killed in battle and honored Snowball and Boxer for their roles in defending the farm.

Topic: Battle of Cowshed


Characters: Mr. Jones, Man 1, Man 2, Man 3, Snowball, pigeons, sheep, geese,
Boxer, rest of animals.
Setting: Farm, mid-day
(Mr. Jones comes in the farm with a gun and half a dozen men behind him, all
carrying sticks.)
Mr. Jones: (Scary, serious attitude) I come here to recapture the farm, the farm that was
mine.
Snowball: (Desperately) attack, attack!
(Pigeons attack men over their heads, the geese, hidden behind the hedge, rush out and
peck in his heads.)
(Men drive geese off with their sticks, Muriel, Benjamin, and all the sheep together with
Snowball at the head of them, rush forward and prod and but the men from every side.)
(The men are strong for them, they carry sticks, with hobnailed boots.)
Snowball: (Suddenly) Squeals!
(Animals retreat)
All animals: (Turns and flies through the gateway into the yard.)
Men (1,2,and 3): (Happily) Give a shout of triumph.
Mr Jones: (Goes toward the animals who are in the yard)
(Snowball go straight for Mr Jones, Mr Jones sees Snowball coming, so he raises his gun
and fires, Snowball docks and the sheep drop dead.)
Snowball: (Angry) Hits Mr Jones on his legs with his stone.
(Mr Jones falls into a pile of dung and his gun flies out of his hands.)
Men (1,2, and 3): (Scared) (Drop their sticks and try to run.)
All animals: (With Panic) (Chase them all around the yard)

(The men go the same way as they come in, except for one, which is at the back of the yard,
and Boxer is pawing with his hoof at the stable who lay face down in the mud. Trying to turn
him over, but the boy doesnt stir. )
Boxer: (Sorrowfully) He is dead! I had no intention on doing that, I forgot I was wearing iron
shoes. Who will believe that I did not do this in purpose?
Snowball: No sentimentality, comrade! War is war, the only good human being is a dead
one.
Boxer: (Crying) I have no wish to take life, not even human life.
Animal 1: (Exclaiming) Where is Mollie?
(Animals start looking for her, she is found hiding in her stall.)
(Animals reassemble in excitement, each recounting exploits in the battle.
All Animals: (Run up flag, sing Beasts of England)
(Funeral for dead animals)
(Snowball and Boxer receive Animal Hero First Class and Animal Hero Second Class)
All Animals: (Talking, trying to choose name)
Snowball: I think it should be called cowshed since it was where the ambush was sprung.
All Animals: (Agreeing)
