ROLE PROFILE
Job Title: Press Officer (Health)
Responsible to: Manager of Health Press
Main Purpose of Job: To plan, create and respond to media interest in the charity’s clinical
research portfolio together with its health awareness and prevention campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
Write and issue press releases to publicise the charity's clinical, health awareness and
prevention work.
Organise press conferences and other media events.
Receive and respond to media enquiries quickly, providing accurate information and relevant
spokespeople.
Monitor media coverage of projects and collate, distribute and evaluate it as necessary.
Monitor the media, particularly in relation to health and social affairs stories, and build
relationships with relevant journalists.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the charity's medical and scientific
staff and associates.
Liaise with national PR colleagues on media activity to support awareness campaigns and
other appropriate stories.
Liaise with regional press and PR colleagues on the regional roll-out of PR campaigns.
Knowledge, experience, skills and competencies:
Relevant experience in a press office, agency or as a journalist.
Ability to understand medical information and translate it into media stories
A good knowledge of the media
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
Good computer skills. Experience of databases will be an advantage.
