Themes of Family and Chaos in The Red Pyramid

The document discusses two themes from the book "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan: 1) The eternal struggle between order and chaos, exemplified by the rising of evil forces and heroes battling to defeat them. 2) The theme of family, shown through Carter and Sadie defending each other despite being separated for a long time and only having each other. The author argues these themes are related in that family can bring order to chaos.

Red Pyramid Theme

by Christopher Almond
In this, Well be taking a look at the themes from the book The Red Pyramid by Rick
Riordan. Now this book is about Carter and Sadie Kane, who take turns telling the story
every, two kids forced into the ancient Egyptian world of gods and magic. Cool right?
Wrong their dad imprisoned or killed, and now they have to try and save him and the
world from Set who plans on destroying the world on year day. But that is not what we
are talking about. We are going to look at two of the recurring theme in the book. One of
which is the eternal struggle between order and chaos. The other theme is family and
how they will stand by you through thick and thin.
Now let's start with the eternal struggle of order and chaos. One of the first time Carter
and Saide see magic is a good example of this. Something stood between our father
and us. At first, I could barely make it outjust a flicker of heat. But as I concentrated, it
took on a vague formthe fiery outline of a man. He was taller than Dad, and his laugh
cut through me like a chainsaw.
Well done, he said to my father. Very well done, Julius.
You were not summoned! My fathers voice trembled. He held up the boomerang, but
the fiery man flicked one finger, and the stick flew from Dads hand, shattering against
the wall.
I am never summoned, Julius, the man purred. But when you open a door, you must
be prepared for guests to walk through.. And there is the bad guy raising up to
power and the call for heroes to step forth and save the world (the circle begins). Then
after a couple days of hardship and strife the heroes (aka Carter and Saide) are in the
final showdown with Set or the fiery outline of a man in the last quote. That's when they
won the finally battle good had bested evil and the universe was at peace, for all of 2
minutes and then the new bad guy showed up fun (not really).
Carter, look. I threw the feather of truth into the sky, breaking the spell.
No! Carter screamed. But the feather exploded into silver dust that clung to the form of
the serpent, forcing it to become visible, just for an instant. Carters mouth fell open as
the serpent writhed in the air above Washington, slowly losing power. Next to me, a
voice screamed:
Wretched gods! I turned to see Sets minion, Face of Horror skipping side info He
crumpled to his back, exhaling with an angry hiss. His black eyes fixed on me, and he
spoke in a completely different voicea rasping, dry sound, like a reptiles belly
scraping over sand. This is not over, godling. All this I have wrought with a wisp of my
voice, the merest bit of my essence wriggling from my weakened cage. Imagine what I
shall do when fully formed. He gave me a ghastly smile, and then his face went slack.
See that right when they were going to win right when good was triumphing over evil,
evil escapes by a hair and the unless struggle counties on. Throw it wasnt straight

away and it when all the way through the book it was there the unless struggle between
right and wrong, good and evil, and order and chaos whatever you call it is a struggle
that will never end.
Now on to the other theme I think is shown in this book, and it would be the theme of
family. Now this is shown throughout the book but there are parts that have stronger feel
that this family is one to watch out for. Now there are many parts and jobs when youre
in a family one of them is to defend them when they need help like when Sadie defends
her father when an officer is saying things about her father she did like. This is after their
dad destroyed the Rosetta stone.
He tried to look at his own eyebrows, then scowled. Now, Sadie, Im sure this is
very hard on you. I understand you want to protect your fathers reputation. But hes
gone now
You mean through the floor in a coffin, I insisted. Hes not dead. Inspector Williams
spread his hands.
Sadie, Im very sorry. But we must find out why he did this act of...well
Act of what? He cleared his throat uncomfortably.
Your father destroyed priceless artifacts and apparently killed himself in the process.
Wed very much like to know why. I stared at him.
Are you saying my fathers a terrorist? Are you mad?
Weve made calls to some of your fathers associates. I understand his behavior had
become erratic since your mothers death. Hed become withdrawn and obsessive in his
studies, spending more and more time in Egypt
Hes a bloody Egyptologist! You should be looking for him, not asking stupid questions!
Sadie, he said, and I could hear in his voice that he was resisting the urge to strangle
me. Strangely, I get this a lot from adults. There are extremist groups in Egypt that
object to Egyptian artifacts being kept in other countries museums. These people might
have approached your father. Perhaps in his state, your father became an easy target
for them. If youve heard him mention any names I stormed past him to the window. I
was so angry I could hardly think. I refused to believe Dad was dead. No, no, no. And a
terrorist? [Link] did adults have to be so thick?
As shown in this quote Saide is being a good girl and defending her father, also for
telling the truth but that's not important. Other than that even though she hasnt seen
them in an every long time she still willing to stand up for him. Part two in which we see
Carter stand up and protect this sister. I didn't want to admit it, but I couldn't stand the
thought of being separated from Sadie again. She wasn't much, but she was all I had
Even throw the drive each other hell do anything to her safe as because she the only
family he has left. The last little showing of family in this book. They're back in their
hideout had just gotten off the phone with her gran and grandpa. (Who dont like Carter
because he was raised by their dad who they hate for many reasons that we won't go

into.) Anyway, Carters scared that she might go home in London and leave him to
handle all of the magic stuff on his own.
At last, I said, What did you tell them? Sadie raised an eyebrow.
God, youre thick sometimes. What do you think?
Oh. My mouth felt like sandpaper. I guess itll be good to see your friends and get back
your old room, and Sadie punched my arm.
Carter! I told them I couldnt very well go home, because I already was home. This is
where I belong. Thanks to the Duat, I can see my friends whenever I want. And besides,
youd be lost without me.
Yet, another job that comes with family standing by one another through the fire and the
flames. Its not over just yet I showed you how theyll defense and stand by one another.
But that concludes this just a quick review of how the theme of family shows when
Saide defended her father when that officer was trying to make him the bad guy, then
there was the time that when Saide said that she would stand by her [Link] is
how the family theme is shown in the book The Red Pyramid.
In these paragraphs, two themes were shown to you one of them was the theme of
order vs. chaos it starts with chaos raising and the heroes are selected and the battle
begins when goods win over evil then the next bad guy comes up to the plate and it
starts all over, showing the endless struggle between the two force. The other is the
theme of family on in this was show how family would defend each other, they started
by defending each other through the change was small their reason for defecting each
other change from your my brother I have to it changed to your the only family I have
left I wont let anyone hurt you and I will always be by your side if you need me. Now
This two theme can relate to each other is that family can be a chaotic mess but each
family finds an order in it all. A lesson that the Author was trying to convey was that life
can be chaotic but family should stick together no meandered what comes at you. This
has been an essay of two themes in the book The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan.
My right arm didnt like it when I try to type all the quotes, so I just copied and pasted
and edit so that it would work in a quote format, but I got them from this site, but it is still
the book The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan.
