Description
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Honors Program is for a select group of highly
achieving students drawn from the BScN-Collaborative Program. Please refer to section
130 of the University Calendar for more details.
While providing the same clinical preparation as the BScN-Collaborative Program, the
BScN-Honors Program provides opportunities to gain more indepth knowledge in the area
of research and be mentored by a Faculty of Nursing researcher. The BScN-Honors
Program has a slightly different course sequencing than the BScN-Collaborative Program;
of specific note are the courses NURS 399 - Selected Topics in Nursing Research and NURS
499 - Scholarly Project in Nursing.
This program is one of only a few nursing honors programs available in Canada, and
provides an exciting opportunity for students to obtain more advanced preparation in
scholarly and research work to enrich their undergraduate program experience. The
program helps to prepare students to provide evidence-based nursing practice in health
care settings, as well as to facilitate the transition from undergraduate to graduate studies
in nursing. Students who are interested in enhancing their capacity for evidence-based
practice and in pursuing research and teaching as future career choices are well suited for
this program.

Based on High School Plan: *High School Schedule
Only students enrolled at the University of Alberta in the BScN-Collaborative Program can seek
admission to the BScN-Honors Program.
A minimum GPA of 3.5: - on the first 25 completed in the BScN-Collaborative Program if applying in
Year 1. - on credits completed in the BScN-Collaborative Program through Fall Term of Year 2, if
applying in Year 2

Residence Information
The First Year Complex, consisting of East Hall, West Hall, and Hoyme Hall, is one building
with three wings sharing a central foyer. The building is designed to create a living
community with opportunities for academic achievement and social interaction of 350
first-year students. Each floor has a lounge for quiet visiting and studying, while two large
basement lounges provide separate study and recreational spaces.
