Vodafone Turkey Network Optimization Insights

The document appears to be a presentation on network optimization for Vodafone Turkey. It discusses analyzing network statistics and drive test results to identify issues such as call drops, throughput issues, and radio link failures. It also covers optimizing parameters, antenna tilting, power levels, and considering adding network capacity such as a second carrier to address congestion problems.

Usage of the mobile nw is growing as 35% increase in 2G and 55%
usage increase in 3G on a monthly basis.
Number of Unique users is growing as 18% in 2G and 38% in 3G.

BUT, If we make investigation on the distribution of the RAT updates per imei/msisdn:
Approx. 15% of the 3G users are generating an inter-RAT PDP context update seen on the Gn.
Regarding the ping-ponging issue between the 2 Radio Technologies, this will affect the end user perception of the service on one hand and on
the other it will create too much signalling:

10% of the 3G users are generating an inter-RAT PDP context update seen on the Gn every 2 hours in average (more than 12 a day),

3.5% of the 3G users are generating an inter-RAT PDP context update seen on the Gn every hour in average (more than 24 a day),

1.25% of the 3G users are generating an inter-RAT PDP context update seen on the Gn every half an hour in average (more than 48 a
day).

The higher the CQI the higher the

throughput achieved.
During benchmarking CQI can not be a
benchmarking issue as offset can be
implemented by the operators.

The number of allocated codes per TTI is

based on the link quality algorithm (CQI
based) implemented in the NodeB scheduler.
This can be approximated by the percentage
of time 10 codes were assigned to the UE.
The graph verifies the positive impact on
achieved throughput when more codes are
allocated

DTX rate is equal to the total Number of DTX

received divided by the total number ACK, NACK
and DTX reported, as a percentage.
The possible causes of high DTX:
UE is incapable of receiving subsequent TTIs as defined by
UE class,
Unfair scheduler ,
No data to transmit,
The Node Bs buffer is empty for the given UE,
Congestion on the Iub, Slow or congested application server,
UE does not receive scheduling indications on the HS-SCCH
due to poor downlink coverage/interference.
Number of users. If there are two active HSDPA users in a
cells coverage area, DTX will approximate 50% per user.

Correlation HSUPA Performance with Drive Test Data

UL throughput is directly related to the allocated Serving Grant (allowed bitrate). It also depends on the happy rate. The higher the happy
rate (caused by TCP retransmissions), the lower will be the UL throughput. .In case SG is low and happy rate is also relatively low, this is a
strong indication of UL capacity limitations.

SG times the DPCCH

power is the power
allocated by the network
for E-DPDCH. The
higher the SG allocated,
the higher the transport
block size the UE is
allowed to use.

Happy Rate: the happy bit is a flag sent by the UE to the network, based on the UE buffer status.
UE buffer gets full -> UE unhappy -> UE requests for a higher SG
UE buffer gets empty -> UE happy -> trigger for the network to decrease the allocated SG
Normally, during a FTP UL the UE stays always unhappy.

NW Planning Dept
Optimization Team

Vodafone - Turkey

As for HSDPA, HSUPA throughput is also

affected by the HSPA serving cell changes:
the higher the number of HS HO, the lower the
end user throughput. It is advisable to try
reducing the overall number of HS HO.

Statistical Analysis vs Field Testing

From a planning point

Right coverage
For Uplink :
No coverage gaps
The path loss to the closest cell must be less

Limiting Factor = Max UE Transmit Pwr

For Downlink:

Statistical Data displays no problem at this cell as the traffic

is not distributed evenly at cell coverage area:
Active set change observation for pollution
