Conceptual Definitions:
Explicit CSR activities: Refers to the corporate policies to
assume responsibility for the interests of the society. Explicit
CSR would ideally consist of voluntary, self-interest, driven
policies, strategies by corporations addressing issues related
to their social responsibility by the company and their
stakeholders.

Implicit CSR activities: Refers to the agreed and accepted


share of responsibilities that a corporation commits itself to
for the societys interests and concerns. It consists of values,
norms, rules which result in addressing issues of the
stakeholders that form an obligation upon corporates.

Explicit CSR:
Wal-Mart and, FedEx coming together for disaster relief
during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Reliance Foundations activities for urban renewal, culture
and women empowerment.

Implicit CSR:

Samsung and Nokia incorporating re-use of used cell


phones and mobiles to contribute to a sustainable
ecosystem
Hindustan Unilever through its PureIt gave people the
source to a cheap source of clean drinking water.
