The class assignment asks students to: 1) identify major issues in the media by analyzing news coverage, 2) select one issue to study further, 3) research the concepts of media and public agendas in the context of the selected issue, and 4) analyze the priming and framing functions of the media in how it covered the issue. Some potential issues students could choose include: news of the world telephone hacking, terror attacks in Mumbai, sex determination and female feticide, the Lokpal bill, controversies around Ramdev Baba, and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
