Franklin D. Roosevelt created several New Deal programs in response to the Great Depression, including the Civilian Conservation Corps. Roosevelt and the CCC

President Franklin D. Roosevelt


Roosevelt was born in 1882, in New York. He was a state senator
and later defeated Herbert Hoover in the presidential election.
When he became president in 1933, he tried coming up with ways
the government could help fix the Great Depression.
Proposed many different ideas and programs to try and help the
American public, called the New Deal.
Some of these programs included paying farmers to stop
producing crops, allowing workers to join unions and fight for
higher wages, and the formation of the Civilian Conservation Corps
New Deal- A series of experimental projects or programs,
designed to help those being affected by the Great
Depression.

Civilian Conservation Corps


The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was one of the first
programs in the New Deal.
Roosevelt created the CCC as a way of providing people jobs
building public works.
The CCC worked throughout the United States, building various
things, like bridges and parks.
The CCC even operated here in Arizona!
Public Works-A project or job where the worker improves the
United States, like building wells, walls, bridges, roads, and
buildings, like post offices and schools.

Many young people were unemployed during the 1930s, and this
lead to people being afraid of the youth not believing in democracy
anymore.
Franklin Roosevelt then created the National Youth Association,
where they would provide aid to unemployed youth.
Two plans were put into place:
If a student was in school, they would give them grants so they
could continue to study.
If they were both unemployed and out of school, the
government would give them training for jobs that would be
useful to them in the future. They later switched it to skill based
training.
