Understanding Parallel and Skew Lines

The lesson plan defines parallel and skew lines, and discusses different types of angles formed when a transversal line intersects two parallel lines. Parallel lines lie in the same plane and never intersect, while skew lines do not lie in the same plane and never intersect. When a transversal line intersects two parallel lines, it forms interior angles between the lines, exterior angles outside the lines, corresponding angles that are interior and exterior but on the same side of the transversal, alternate interior angles that are interior but on opposite sides, and alternate exterior angles that are exterior but on opposite sides.

Lesson Plan in Parallelism

Objectives:
1) To differentiate parallel lines from skew lines.
2) To identify interior, exterior, corresponding, alternate interior and alternate
exterior angles.
Lesson Proper
Parallel lines: two lines are parallel iff. they lie on the same plane and do not intersect.
In symbol, AB // CD.
Skew Lines: Two lines are skew iff. they do not lie on the same plane and do not
intersect.
Transversal: A line is a transversal of two or more coplanar lines iff. It intersects them at
different points.

Interior Angles : 3, 4, 5, 6
Exterior Angles: 1, 2, 7, 8
Corresponding Angles: A pair of non-adjacent
angles one interior, one exterior both on the
same side of the transversal are called
corresponding angles.
