Flavonoid Testing Results for Kalanchoe

The document summarizes the results of phytochemical screening tests for flavonoids in Kalanchoe pinnata. Two tests - the Bate-Smith and Metcalf test and the Wilstater "cyanidin" test - were performed but both returned negative results, with no color change observed for the first test and the sample turning a lighter color for the second. The negative outcomes were unexpected as the extract was predicted to test positive for flavonoids, possibly due to environmental factors, reagent contamination, or human error during testing.

The test for flavonoids used Bate-Smith and Metcalfs Test to determine the
presence of Leucoanthrocyanin by giving a strong red or violet color result. And the
Wilstater cyaniding Test denotes the presence of gamma benzopyrone by giving a
color ranging to red to crimson and magenta and occasionally to green to blue result.
The Bate-Smith and Metcalf Test indicated at table 1 presented a NEGATIVE
inference for there was no color change in the experimental result. The second test
used, Wilstater cyanidin, also indicated a NEGATIVE inference turning the original
color (turbid brownish green) to a lighter color.
The methanol extract of Kalanchoe pinnata should be positive for the tests of
flavonoids, but negative results were obtained may be due to environmental factors,
possible contamination of the reagent, or human errors.
