World Book Day Celebration at Boughton Heath

Boughton Heath Academy will celebrate World Book Day on March 6th. A storyteller named Susan Allonby will visit the school and tell traditional tales to each class. She will focus on developing storytelling skills like using creative vocabulary. Students are encouraged to dress up as characters from traditional tales for the day, such as Little Red Riding Hood. Parents should not feel they need to purchase costumes and the school hopes the day will inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Dear Parents/Carers

On Friday 6th March Boughton Heath Academy will be celebrating World Book Day.
Storyteller Susan Allonby will be visiting the school for the day and spending time in
each class. Sue tells traditional tales from the UK and further afield. She combines
actual storytelling with games/activities focusing on storytelling skills (bare bones of a
story, memory, creative vocabulary, concentration, telling to a partner etc.). She will
emphasise the importance of traditional tales as a source of inspiration and ideas for
children's own writing, or storytelling.
To celebrate the day we would like the children to dress up as a character from a
Traditional Tale this could be anything from Little Red Riding Hood to Pinocchio. The
children may also like to bring in their favourite book as well. The school strongly
discourages parents from purchasing one off costumes for the day, so please do not
feel that you must do this.
We appreciate your support at home by reading with your children and hope this day
can inspire lifelong love of reading. The World Book Day website is full of ideas
including the The Big Book Off idea above. Please try to take a minute to look before
Friday.
