Anne Frank: Leadership and Legacy

The student group decided to do their History Fair project on Anne Frank. Over two weeks, they conducted research on Anne Frank's life from books, newspapers, magazines, websites and other sources to gain a better understanding of her legacy. A Young Voice: The Life and Legacy of Anne Frank

During the process of picking our History Fair topic, our group got together and wrote
down possible ideas on a sheet of notebook paper. We tried to brainstorm out of the box
ideas and ideas that we also believed we knew enough about, yet could also learn from
more research. We recapped on our experience of learning about Anne Frank in English
during our eighth grade year. Our group decided that we had some knowledge about
Anne Frank, but we felt we really lacked the true understanding of Anne's legend and
legacy on the world. Thus, we decided we would do our History Fair project on Anne
Frank.
Over the next two weeks we had class visits to the library to construct a starting
layer of material to use in our project. Each group member was responsible for collecting
a substantial amount of research and resources. After those two weeks we cracked down
on reading books, finding newspapers articles, magazine articles, websites, and anything
else that could possibly give us a better understanding of Anne Frank's life. Our group
found many resources available to us at school and at home. The Internet proved to be
one of our most valuable resources.
The next decision our group needed to make was how our research would best be
presented. We got together and wrote down the pros and cons about each presentation
category. In conclusion, we decided a website would allow us the best venue for
portraying the leadership and legacy of Anne Frank. The website category seemed the
most suitable for showing the true experiences of Anne Frank and her family while in
hiding because we could include photos of Anne and her family. A website would also
provide the means of including video clips of Holocaust survivors.
Our website about Anne Frank relates to this years History Fair theme,
"Leadership and Legacy in History, for many reasons. Annes life evolved into a legacy
of leadership for millions around the world. Annes voice which she recorded on the
pages of her diaries left a lasting legacy for all people. Her leadership characteristics of
courage, empathy, compassion, confidence, honesty and optimism have been an
inspiration to millions of followers. The world has taken her words and applied them to
their lives to serve a reminder to fight against injustice and prejudice. Her legacy of
leadership will never die.
