Reflection
When I look back at the beginning of the semester, all I remember was the quote that
Professor Lawson introduced to the class before we were getting ready to begin working our first
progression. The quote said There is no truly great writing, only great rewriting by Justice
Louis Brandeis. This quote stood with me because before entering as a student at CSUN, I
always pressured myself to write the perfect essay on my first try in hopes that I would get a
good grade on it. Although my writing habits worked during my high school years, they did not
fly in college. In my english class, we worked on three progressions which consisted of two
exercises and one final essay. I liked that the two exercises helped me gather information to put
together and use it and prepare me for the final essay. The work that I did in this course helped
me realize the kind of student I was and didnt want to be. I admit that I carried my old high
school habits into college that only hurt myself and my grade. During the last weeks of the
semester, I realized that my actions were not acceptable and need to make changes so that I can
succeed in the spring semester and in my future college years. Slowly but surely, I have been
working on managing my time and creating a balanced schedule for my academic and social life.
It took me a long time to realize that being a student was apart of my life and had to act like one.
I am excited to see what they next semester awaits for me because I feel more confident now
than ever before. What motivated me was thinking about the positive changes in my life that will
benefit me in the long run. This course has allowed me to grow as an individual and has truly

opened my eyes to go after what I want. I feel like I am more proactive when it comes to doing
my work. Overall, I appreciate the curriculum of the classroom because it was so organized and
helpful for starting future assignments. I will remember my english class as a helpful tool that I
needed in my college career. I am glad that I noticed and took care of my bad habits before it
was too late in my college life.
