Part Four: Other Requirements
1. What other requirements must you meet to graduate from this college/university with your
chosen degree? (Testing, Projects, Observation hours, etc.)
Test of Academic Proficiency
Content Area Test
edTPA
K-12 and High School Teaching Field Experience
Content Reading Field Experience
High School Field Experience
Residency (Student Teaching)
2. Student Teaching What did you learn about options for student teaching at your chosen
college/university?
I would apply for student teaching for the fall of my senior year. The woman in charge of
student teaching placement will find a mentor teacher for me in the area. I cannot student teach
in my own high school, or a district in which a family member works, in order to ensure a
objective learning environment.
Part Five: Certification
Please review the document from ISBE and answer the questions below.
1. Is the college/university you are planning to transfer to on the list of approved schools?
Yes
2. Which content test will you need to take?
English
3. Will you have to complete the edTPA?
Yes
4. What did you learn about the edTPA?
I learned that the edTPA is a new student teacher performance assessment used experimentally in
more than 30 states. As of right now, it is not a certification requirement, but will be in the
future. Therefore, it is important to find out how prospective four-year schools will prepare their
education students for this test. North Central has been making their students take the edTPA for
the past two years, and have had high success rates.
5. What is the APT test?
The APT test assesses candidates on the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and the
language arts and technology standards for teachers. Candidates completing approved teacher
preparation programs in the state of Illinois must take the APT test to become certified. There
are different versions of the APT depending on what grade level you want to teach (I would take
Secondary 6-12).
6. How do you apply for licensure?
