ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to understand and review the path breaking marketing strategies implemented by Indian hospitals

to tap the medical tourism market. It also attempts to predict the potential growth opportunities and challenges faced by the Indian medical tourism market. Data has been collected through secondary sources which include research articles, books, magazines, journals, e-journals and websites. Observations from the secondary sources research !t the beginning of the "# st century many may not have perceived medical tourism to become a reality. $owever, the fact of the matter is that today, medical treatments in private hospitals are attracting patients from many western countries. %tudies have shown a gradual yet promising increase in medical tourism market in India. Indian hospitals have recognized a global need arising from the deteriorating financial condition of health services of many western countries and the underlying need of uninsured patients to be treated. The idea that began as a simple health care service grew to become a vast network in offering variety of health care services at a &uicker pace and lesser cost in India. This is the primary reason for the emergence of medical tourism in India as a global business opportunity. 'ith specialized team of doctors and low cost services, India is emerging as a home for many foreign nationals seeking medical advice and treatment. !fter analyzing all the facts it can be concluded that India is in an advantageous position to tap the global opportunities in the medical tourism. Detailed analysis will be elaborated in the main paper.
