Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is one of the long awaited subjects for me when opting for this post graduate study. As my first degree is not TESLbased, I wanted to enhance my level of understanding the acquisition of language amongst my learners to make me understand them better. In return, I am hoping to formulate an efficient way of acquiring the English language in which might not be as painful and agonizing as I experienced during my secondary years. From what I understand, SLA will provide me information of how people learn or acquire language, be it their first, second or third. I would also expect to learn the reasons taking place behind the acquisition process, how to filter what to learn and what not to acquire in the language acquisition practice. All these information is expected to assist me in making me a better teacher. I felt excited to learn new things from this subject, and I completely rely on my experience as an English teacher for 11 years plus my initiatives to read about any topic given by the lecturer(s). My past experience with Fundamentals of ELT was not a good one as the lesson turned out to be the total opposite of what I expected. Dr Lee said that SLA is not much different from Fundamentals of ELT but Im still optimistic to improve my knowledge on this subject.

Managing working adults is not an easy task and I saluted most of my previous lecturers for being able to do so. Although showered with quite a number of commitments, the lecturer ought to sense the sincerity of each and every one of his or her students to obtain sound understanding of what being taught. And I believe, Dr Paramjit is the one who is fit enough to carry the task. With a small number of classmates, I hope my lecturer will spend most of the time focusing on each and every one of us meticulously. Although it may be annoying at times, it is something that we have to bear with because we are the one who chose to be out of our comfort zone and while doing that, reap something in return apart from only a piece of paper. Thank you.
