The Struggle for Gender Equality: The Equal Rights Amendment

Hannah Johnson Senior Division Individual Website

I knew right away that I wanted to do my project on the topic women. I looked through possible topics online before skimming through the suggested topics attached to the ational History Day information packet my teacher provided me with. I stumbled upon !"he Struggle for the #$ual %ights &mendment.' Immediately( I knew that this is what I wanted to do my project on.&lso( being a female myself( I could empathi)e with their struggles. I understood the need for the #$ual %ights &mendment on a personal level. I conducted my research first by looking up events concerning the #$ual %ights &mendment online. *y doing this( I found the official #$ual %ights &mendment website. I skimmed through the article and jotted down a few critical points( along with a few main suffragists. I then continued to delve through the intensive history of this particular )ealous struggle. I looked for primary sources concerning women in the workforce until I found a reliable source. I lastly looked for pictures that helped create a mental image and depicted what it was like to do such a rebellious thing in this time. I chose a website because it seemed( to me( the most fitting and organi)ed way to display a multitude of information. It was very simple to display pictures( which I knew would assist my argument. "he website provided a way for me to display all of the information I gathered in chronological order. &fter deciding which aspects of the #$ual %ights &mendment were the most important and turning this into tabs( I found relevant photographs from this time. I continued conducting my research and added te+t to the bodies of the individual pages. "he struggle for the #$ual %ights &mendment( and ultimately( the struggle for gender e$uality( fits the theme(!%ights and %esponsibilites(' because it is all about how women deserve the same rights as men. &lso for the reason that it is the responsibility of both men and women to ensure that women are treated fairly and are not oppressed. Without all of these influential and defiant people( women today would still not be taken seriously( nor would they have the rights we have today. We owe this progress to the original activists( ,ucretia -ott and #li)abeth .ady Stanton and the others who helped throughout the years. It our responsibility to pick up the fight from where they left off.
