Native American rights Native Americans in the U.S. occupy a uni ue legal position. !n the one hand" they are U.S. citi#en and entitled to all the same rights and

$onstitutional protections that other Americans en%oy. !n the other hand" they are members o& sel&'governing nations and tribal reservations have some degree o& independence. (he relationship bet)een Native American (ribes and the &ederal government is comple* and many legal decisions over the years have been contradictory. +o) do )e balance the ,ights o& American Indians to be &ree )ith the responsibility o& the U.S. to protect reservations- .oes the o&ten tragic mistreatment o& Native Americans by the &ederal government throughout the history create a modern responsibility to try to make amends-

Watching American Indian movies I got interested o& the Indian history. I )ondered ho) the American Indians live today. I remember in the movies ho) American Indians )ere portrait like the bad guy enemy )ho )anted to kill the )hite man. (hen I once talked to American Indian )ho told me )e )ere here &irst and )e used to o)n all the land in United Stated America. (his statement )as I opening &or me.

I did research &irst by search o& /oogle 0ooks and books related to Indian +istory and ,ights. /oogle 0ooks had great selection o& books related to topic. As progress )ith my search I came across local American Indian reservation and I did learn Seminole Indian reservation head uarters )as located in +olly)ood" 1lorida. I did contact to Seminole

(ribe head uarter as I asked )ho could I video intervie) re&erence to American Indian ,ights and treaties. I )as able to have intervie) )ith 1lorida Seminole (reasury Mike (iger. I have chosen Web Site &ormat to present my history pro%ect. (his allo)s me include the Intervie)s that I did.

(hrough the history American Indians have been mistreated by not honoring treaties" &orce&ully removed certain areas to make room &or )hite man. American Indian today is mistreated thru the court systems. Ma%ority o& Women are been raped and &ederal government has not done enough to provide protection and resources to investigate the rape cases.

(hru this history pro%ect I5m planning to e*pose concerns o& current day American Indians. (hru the in&ormative Web Site I hope to share light American Indian rights and responsibilities. (rust to the 1ederal /overnment seems to be issue since all the treaties made have been broken by 1ederal /overnment )ith American Indians.
