describes a discourses community as something that testifies to the increasingly common assumptions that discourse operates with in conventions defined communities (Page 21). It is a cluster of ideas that drive how members use language in that particular community (Page 22). Also, a discourse community can be a way of life for a member. It can be a community that you are born into, or become a member of. In the discourse communities there is a specific way of differentiate the discourse communities; whether its within their own community or with other communities. And that is by the use of Genre. The Concept of Genre is stated by Devitt, saying that Genres are dynamic patterns of human experiences and, concepts that enable us to construct our writing worlds (Devit Page573). Devitt wxplainsGenre, conceptually speaking, is an understanding of rhetorical and semiotic situation, along with, a social contract all at the same time. Genre Broken Down Genre broken down in terms used by experts consists of Genre revealing the appropriateness of the writings, or that Genre develops responses according to their situations and how it is constructed by recurring situations (Devitt 575). Devitt, especially, emphasizes that situations (rhetorical) are social constructs that are the result of definition, not of perception;

because we do not construct the (rhetorical) situation through text, rather, we reach the situation through Genre (577). Genre is a way a person can define his or her writing. It works in the way that a persons discourse community affect why they write, but Genre puts their work, in a conceptualize form. It is reached by meeting a certain standard or solving a particular niche in the community. It works in this way, because every writer has a purpose for writing what they and Genre identifies that purpose. Professional Discourse Community For my professional discoursed community, I chose Industrial Engineering. More specifically, I chose to analyze three peer re-viewed article published by the same online Journal Computers ind. Engng, all dealing with something to do with Industrial Engineering. First Article The first article is titled Virtual Manufacturing: An Overview written by Chetan Shukla, Michelle Vasquez and F. Frank Chen. This article give a detailed description of how Virtual Manufacturing (VM) is an emerging technology that aims at generating a perception of reality in a human subject, using devices that stimulate a dynamic model of a real or fictitious environment. It is a document that is just in black and white, with no visuals (Shukla 79). I found this article on a search engine website call Google Scholar. That website is accessible to just about anybody and is filled with similar articles. This article explains, in detail, what Virtual Manufacturing is, what it can be used for, and how helpful it can be if used correctly. Also, this article is that they make sure their objective, to explain well what Virtual Manufacturing is, and to make it clear that it is useful. This article uses references to make connection and prove their logic. Since it is a type of research paper for companies and manufacturers, the author(s)

that wrote this article has to be very informative, as well as easy to read for said manufacturers or companies, whom have a minimal level of understanding because this article does entail some complex wording and descriptions. The people that are invited to participate in this discourse are anyone who finds an interest in Virtual Manufacturing and who might be a potential investor. The actual content of the article is very explicit, accessible and direct. For example, I have noticed that in this article the author communicates with the audience, using acronyms like (VM) to signify Virtual Manufacturing. I have noticed that the use of this type of acronym is very common in Industrial Engineering Genre. However, it does take a level of intellect to understand the content. The word choice and phrasing of the article is a bit complex, especially, for someone who may not read at a collegiate level. For example, the line of Virtual Reality is described in [Larijani, 1994] as a computer-synthesized, three dimensional environment in which a plurality of human participants, appropriately interfaced, may engage and manipulate simulates physical elements in the environment and in some forms, may engage and interact with representations of other humans, past, present or fictional or invented creatures( Shukla 80) and VM aims at providing an integrated environment for a number of isolated manufacturing technologies such as Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Computer Aided Process Planning, thus allowing multiple users to concurrently carry out all or some of these functions without the need for being physically close to each other ( Shukla 80) are very complicated and, to some extent, very confusing. This hold the author and the article to a different standard, because of the level of difficulty that this line presents, the author is article is taken to a level of prestige. This level of professionalism entitles the author, to a particular identify within the discourse community, which identifies that type of Genre that this article is a part of. Second Article The second article I found is titled MultiObjective Genetic Algorithm and Its Applications to Flow shop Scheduling written by Tadahiko Murata, Hisao Ishibuchi and Hideo Tanaka. This article was found by using Google Scholar and I tried to link it with the journal by which I found the first article. It

was fairly accessible to acquire,

because this information is outdated, so it is only used for reference now. This article used both text and visuals to explain the concept of a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm and how it is better than the singled objective algorithm, through random sampling methods (Murata 957). For example, the first visuals are graphs and descriptions of their research prior to establishing their findings, in Figures 1 & 2. This article is a little more disclose, than the first article because of the higher level of complex material covered in the second article. The article evoked a feeling of trust and possibly a little bit of confusion, because if the reader isnt informed about the genetic algorithms, then the reader might have no choice, but to confide in the research presented.

For example an example, of the high level of algorithms and equations the use are shown in the article like the following images are presented in figures 3&4. However, the article is organized in such a way that everything about it seems reliable and viable. effect of it on the Flowshop schedule. It is in APA format with an abstract, followed by an introductions and then a methods portion, and lastly a conclusion. This hold the author and the article to a different standard, because of the level of difficulty that these visuals and algorithms presents, the author of the article is taken to a level of prestige because of the actual proof of results and this evokes a level of comfort into the authors results. This level of professionalism entitles the author, to a particular identify within the discourse community, which identifies that type of Genre that this article is a part of. The Genre is a genre that most published articles are a part of; it consist of highly- intelligent Industrial Engineers who contribute vital information to the world of manufacturing and the business world. For example in the conclusion paragraph, the authors states By computer simulations, we showed that our multi-objective genetic algorithm could find concave Pareto optimal solutions, and we demonstrated that our multi-objective genetic algorithm could find better solutions than the VEGA (Vector Evaluated Genetic Algorithm) by Schaffer [11] and the single-objective genetic algorithm. (Murata 967). These specific information are vital to companies and manufacturers that use the older algorithm, which

helps them remain competitive. This levels the article to the genre, much like all of my article, is help ad aid the readers. Third Article The third article titled Virtual Enterprise- Information System and Network Solution., written by Park Kyung and Favrel Joel. This article was composed of presenting a new concept of a virtual enterprise and how it can be used to improve how corporations handle the intake of information and apply it to their process. This article makes the concept of Virtual Enterprise very clear with an abstract, listed objectives, sub headings and visuals for support. I found this article on google scholar as well, I just kept looking through links that were published by the same journal as the first two articles. This article

has a special visual that embodies the entire Visual Enterprise and its functions. For example, figure 5 describe that stated An Information System infrastructure which is an integration effort of all three essential ICT groups described before. It ultimately everyone with in a workgroup or an inter-organizational enterprise. It is also an effective integration framework of information technology which is a systematic collection of enablers for information and process integration. (Park and Favrel 443). With the use of different text and visual modules, the author

This level of professionalism entitles the author, to a particular identify within the discourse community, which identifies that type of Genre that this article is a part of. The Genre is a genre that most published articles are a part of; it consist of highly- intelligent Industrial Engineers who contribute vital information to the world of manufacturing and the business world. Conclusion Each article explains the new concepts that the article presents, by thoroughly covering all the subject matter and they are relatively easy to read. Because the Discoursed community is Industrial Engineering, then the responsibility of the author(s) is to make the customer (reader) feel confident in their findings or research. Establishing that feeling in their readers is the main objective of an I.E.. All three articles use some type of visuals or text, that consist of vital information of their finding and all three articles organize each part in an efficient manner, so the reading becomes easier to understand or analyze. This is why when searching for all of the articles, something that popped out was how many time these articles have been cited by other people. All three articles were published and put out by the same journal of Industrial Engineers and follow the APA format, which can prove that to be successful when writing research papers like this Industrial Engineers, as a Genre, must communicate in this manner. What I learned about the Genre of Industrial Engineers is that I.E.s have to be able to make process efficient as possible, but they also need to first be able to phrase their findings so

the reader will be able to understand the improvement to complex processes that they have achieved. Engineers must be able to communicate their findings in an understandable manner for the reader, because having their work published and used is the purpose for all engineers. Also, I speculate that the reason why Industrial Engineers use APA format, sub headers, charts, graphs visuals and algorithms in the discourse community because if they dont, then the Engineer will lose credibility and the university or journal will not publish their work, defeating the purpose of why they conducted an experiment or research. Also, because of the purpose of the job that entails being an Industrial engineer, they have the important responsibility to serve their readers like no one else can. They have to use the knowledge the acquired the from schooling and their work experience, to put out usable information, so the reader can then, take the information to improve their understanding about new technology or aid them with a manufacturing problem. This is the rhetorical situation that the Genre has been created for.
