MODELING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: Many musical instruments can be modeled with surprisingly good quality by relatively simple signal processing networks. One very fruitful approach has been the "physical modeling synthesis" developed by Julius Smith and others at Stanford's CCRMA. Here's a recent article by Julius called Physical Modeling Synthesis Update. You can follow links from there to lots of other information on his site.
