Android is an open source software platform and operating system based on the Linux kernel. It is developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance for use in mobile devices. Android features an application framework, Dalvik virtual machine, integrated web browser, optimized graphics, SQLite database, media support and GSM telephony. The Android architecture consists of applications, application runtime, libraries and the Android framework running on top of the Linux kernel.
