Simple Microscope Construction Guide

This document provides instructions for making a simple microscope using common household materials. The microscope can be constructed using a wooden stick, two magnifying glasses of different sizes, and a printed paper sample. The materials are arranged on the stick with the larger magnifying glass on the bottom to act as an objective lens, and the smaller glass on top to further magnify the image. By moving the top lens up and down, the print sample comes into sharp focus, allowing the viewer to see an enlarged version of the small text. The instructions conclude that this homemade microscope allows observation of small objects that would otherwise be difficult to see clearly.

♣ Printed paper

♣ A table of about 50 x 50 cm

♣ A wooden stick of about 50 cm long with a diameter of about

2 cm

♣ Two magnifying glasses : small & big

1. Set the wooden stick upright on the table. Be sure that the
stick stands firmly enough

2. Put the printed paper on the table

3. Place the first magnifying glass (the thick one) on the stick. To
support the magnifying glass you can use a big clamp. The
function of this magnifying glass is as an objective lens. Through
this magnifying you can see the print is larger

4. Place the second magnifying glass on the stick above the first
magnifying glass

5. Move the second magnifying glass up and down until the print
gets a sharp focus. You can see now that the print is larger than
when you see one magnifying glass only
