Digital Economy & E-Business


A digital economy is an economy that is based on electronic goods and services produced by an electronic business and traded through electronic commerce. e.g. Creating an integrated transport system, connecting travelers, vehicles, to provide personalized information that will help influence travel behavior. Concept of EB emerged in last decade of 20th century. Digital economy includes every aspect of life from health to education and from business to banking. E-commerce constitutes the exchange of products and services between business, groups or individuals. While E-Business involves business processing spanning the entire value chain i.e. electronic purchasing, supply chain management, processing orders electronically, handling customers service and co-ordination with business partners etc.

Indian Digital Economy India is seen as the place to procure business and IT services cheaply. No. of Internet Users in India in Sept. 2007-> 2.5 Million Aug. 2008->20 Million 2011-> 119,749,712 (i.e. Nearly 119.7 million) But even-though in case of internet, India is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure, especially in rural area. Principles of E-Business Not all customers are created equal. The key to success is focus. The market is already defined. Companies create categories, not market. Market leaders select segments they can dominate and ultimately own. All technology is complex and customers require more assistance to adopt new technology. High touch is critical to changing behavior. Those who define the playing field, ultimately win.

The market ecosystem is different for each product and its corresponding target (sweet spot). The best way to dominate is through the associations that reach and influence the target segment. There need to be a fit between the customer target, their issues, the message and vehicle.
