There are a few members of the class Cestoda that just happen to be long, flat, parastitic worms. These worms have a head called a scolex, also there are a few suckers and a ring of hooks. These hooks and suckers are used to attach onto the intestinal wall of humans or animals. Tapeworms rarely kill their hosts but they do eat a lot of the humans food, which is an explanation as to why their hosts lose a lot of weight and become weaker. Some tapeworms cause signs and symptoms such as: These parasitic worms gather their food by absorbing it through their body walls; they can soon grow to a very impressive size. The adult mal tapeworms have been found to grow over 18 meters. An interesting fact about tapeworms is that they have both male and femal reproductive organs. A proglittide may have 1000,000 eggs, these grow for a long time then burrow into the muscle tissue of the intermediate host and create dormant protective stage called a cyst.A fully developed poroglttide may burst inside either the hosts intestine or after it has been passed out of the hosts body through poop.
