Cultural Lens Project

HOW I SEE IT

We all have a unique way of viewing the world. Many factors go into the images we have of the world and the people within it. Our cultural backgrounds play the largest role. This is called our cultural lens. Our cultural lens is influenced by our religions, the areas we live in, the people around us, our traditions, our norms, our age, our ethnicity and race, and countless more areas of our individual cultures. For instance, students in China would view the lunch served in the cafeteria far different than you would. You would also view the lunch served at their schools differently than them. What is normal to one group of people may not be so normal to another. For this project you will be taking a look at the way two different groups of people view one and other. For example, we have already discussed the way Nigerians and Americans view one and other. You can show the differences of opinions in a variety of ways.
1 2 3 Create a poster displaying the viewpoints of each group on opposing sides of a line. Create a box with two peek-holes. Each peek-hole would peer at the group displayed on the opposite side. Develop a skit/opposing rap battle/or poetry performance.

**If you have any other ideas feel free to ask Ms. Winfert or Mr. Rowley** You may choose however you want to display your two lenses. You must display 4 of the following areas within your project:
Geography/Environment Religion Cuisine/Food Music Dance Population Language Education Clothing Norms Traditions

Finally you should attach a 1 paragraph summary for each group and the items you chose to include. The summary should explain the ideas you are displaying and how those ideas have developed. This summary should be either typed or neatly printed.
