CHEMICAL REACTION= THRUST OF ROCKET
Vinegar (Acetic acid) plus tablet (sodium bicarbonate) makes sodium acetate ( a salt) plus carbonic acid. The (carbonic acid) then breaks down into water and carbon dioxide.
CHEMICAL REACTION= THRUST OF ROCKET
Water (H2O) plus Berocca (sodium bicarbonate) causes a chemical reaction forming a by-product carbon dioxide.
3rd Law
2nd Law
Performance Task: Goal: Build a rocket with the best vertical flight time using knowledge of Newtons Laws.
Building the best rocket:
1. How would you increase the flight time? 2. How would you increase the action force to cause more liftoff? 3. How would you change the mass?
TESTING OF ROCKETS
1. TEST. Required: 3 trials. Record results in a table. 2. Write a summary conclusion explaining how rockets work using Newtons laws of motion. Refer to data/results for your explanations. (see Part 2 of handout)
Rocket Height of Rocket (cm or m) Lab Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Average
Rocket 1 1. Using Newtons Laws, explain the principle behind rocket liftoff. [Link] your results to Newtons Laws and explain why your experiment was a success or a failure. 3. Suggest ways for improvement.
Summary: Rockets
1. State the aim of the experiment. Describe your tests and test results. 2. Using Newtons Laws, explain the principle behind rocket liftoff. 4. Relate your results to Newtons Laws and explain why your experiment was a success or a failure. 5. Suggest ways for improvement.
