Item Attribute Mass Maintenance in R12

This document provides information on the new "Item Attribute Mass Maintenance" feature in Oracle R12 Advanced Supply Chain Planning. This feature allows users to create "simulation sets" that modify item attributes to test proposed changes without altering the source data. Simulation sets store the attribute changes separately so they do not overwrite the original data. The document describes how to set up and use this feature, including creating simulation sets, applying changes to plans, and reviewing results. It also covers related forms, tables, and considerations for using this new functionality.

1] -----------------------------------------------------------------------R12_ASCP_Item_Mass_Maintenance Advanced Supply Chain Planning Support Feature Document For Item Attribute Simulation Sets (aka Item Mass Maint enance) 1. Introduction

The objective of the Support Feature Document is to provide information on the new feature, Item Attribute Mass Maintenance, introduced in a Release 12 from a technical and functional perspective so that customers and support has the necessary information to implement and troubleshoot this new feature. This is release specific and not cumulative. For information on prior releases, please see previous Oracle Documentation.

Feature Descriptions

Item Attribute Mass Maintenance is a powerful new tool to select and change item attributes that can influence the plan results. This new feature allows the creation of Simulation Sets that can be used to modify item attributes to see immediate results in plans for proposed changes. These simulation sets are stored in new tables created for Item Attribute Mass Maintenance. These tables make the changes persistent but separate so that they are not overwritten by data collections.

For example: The fixed lead time for item ZZ is ten days. There are proposed changes on the shop floor that will result in the fixed lead-time being decreased to five days. The item attribute can be changed and simulated in the plan prior to actually changing it on the source instance and re-collecting the [Link] there is substantial change in the plan results then this information can be used to justify the changes.

Another example: A machine is broken at the Mexico [Link] to this, the lead-time on item ZZ is going to be increased to twenty days. It would cost more to have item ZZ made at the Brazil plant but the lead-time would be shorter. Two simulation sets can be created and used on two test plans. These plans can then be compared to determine which is more desirable solution.

This allows the users to: *Perform simulations related to planning item attributes*

*Simulations can be rapidly performed without changing the attributes on the source system*** *Perform multiple simulations by maintaining multiple copies of the item attributes in the planning system (simulation sets)*** * * 3. Minimum Level Requirements (Product)

There are no reports associated with this functionality. 6. Implementation Considerations

It is recommended that this functionality be used on test plans. This is especially true if more than one planner works off the same ASCP [Link] this will result in more plans being defined in the instance then space and partitions should be created prior to the creation of the test plans. Records released from the Item Simulation Set, will post processing lead time simulations set, the post will be three days. plan workbench that were created using the retain the changes [Link] example: If the is changed from five days to three days in the processing lead time used on the planned order

If the simulation set is removed from the plan and the plan is rerun then the lead-time of five days will be used. NOTE: Even though the setting from the simulation set is used on the

planned order, the item attribute is NOT changed on the source. There are no further implementation considerations. ** * *

How To Setup and Use This Feature

Open the form - Item Attributes Mass Maintenance - [Link]

o NAV/ Advanced Supply Chain Planner / Setup / Item Attributes Mass Maintenance o o o o Create Simulation Set. Define the Set Name Find the items to be changed Select the Items to be changed Change the Item Attribute** values using options: Set Value to (explicit value) Increase Original by Value by (explicit value)

Increase Original by Percentage (Note: Zero values will not be updated) Decrease Original by Value by (explicit value)

Decrease Original by Percentage (Note: Zero values will not be updated) ** Appendix A<#_Appendix_A>shows the list of possible attributes that are available in the form o Repeat Find / Select / Change steps as needed until all changes are in the Set. o o o Save your work Add the simulation set to the plan. Changed Form - Plan Options - [Link] NAV / Advanced Supply Chain Planner / Supply Chain Plan / Options Main Tab - field - Item Simulation Set Launch the plan. Review the output.

Repeat as necessary.

Performance Considerations

There are no performance considerations directly related to this feature 9. Troubleshooting Tips

Be aware of the following standard functionality in the form IF simulation set name is created and user attempts to save, THEN an error will occur. At least one item must be selected and changed in order to save the simulation set. This is intended functionality. Reference Bug 5453526// Case a) items are not selected, but attributes are entered and apply button is clicked: /// "Please select Item(s) for which attributes need to be updated" / Case b) items are selected, attributes are not entered, and apply button is clicked: /"Please enter Attribute Name(s) which needs to be updated"/ Case c) Sim set name is entered, and user tries to save or click on the apply button: /"Please update Item Attribute(s) in order to save the Simulation set"/ Do not try to increase/decrease NULL values by a Percentage (%). An error message will appear and NO records will be updated (even the ones that are NOT NULL) For every attribute e.g. Processing LT there exist two columns Original Processing LT and Processing LT . Remember that the value being changed is Processing LT SO -- when you say Increase By 10%, the increase is relative to the value stored in Original Processing LT When you hit Apply the changes are being saved (no need to hit save button in the toolbar) Pay attention to the radio button setting of Included , All Items Included , Not
