FIFA Just Made Streaming Free. Forever. This isn't generosity. It's the end of paywalled sports content as we know it. Here's what week 44 revealed about the future of sports business: 1. The Free Streaming Gambit FIFA partnered with DAZN to relaunch FIFA+ as completely free in 2026. No subscriptions. No paywalls. Just unlimited football content globally. They're not chasing subscription revenue—they're chasing the billion-user dataset that makes advertising and sponsorship deals worth exponentially more. 2. Exos Just Bought The Future Exos acquired Infinite Athlete and Biocore. That's not adding products to a portfolio—it's controlling the entire human performance stack from wearable sensors to video analysis to training facilities. One company now owns the complete athlete optimisation journey from data capture to performance delivery. 3. AI Calls The Game Now FOX Sports built FOX Foresight with Google's Gemini AI for the World Series. The AI generates real-time player insights, predictive analytics, and storylines without human research teams. Broadcasters aren't using AI assistance anymore—AI is running the analysis while humans just deliver it. 4. Lower-Tier Clubs Weaponise Innovation Stevenage FC launched their own startup accelerator. They can't outspend elite clubs, so they're becoming the testing ground for emerging tech. Startups get real-world validation. The club gets cutting-edge tools without capital expenditure. That's asymmetric competition. 5. Coaches Become Investors Parthiv Patel, Gujarat Titans assistant coach, invested in SportzEngage cricket analytics. Not endorsement deals—actual investment capital. When coaches put their money into platforms, it signals the technology moved from experimental to essential for competitive advantage. This is accessibility meeting consolidation. Free content captures audiences while integrated performance platforms capture the entire value chain. The real question: When streaming is free and AI runs broadcasts, where does the actual value creation happen? I tracked these 5 shifts plus 22 other major developments including GamdSports' $11M raise and MLS's "Embodied Sound" audio innovation in this week's Sports Tech Weekly newsletter—link in comments.

I’ve created over 500 social videos in F1 📈 Here are 6 non-obvious lessons I’ve learnt: 1) Timing over production Cars move fast. Content moves faster. Quick wits = huge wins. There are moments when reaction time beats production quality. That said… 2) Be reactive. But don’t make it your whole strategy. Race weekends are the peak of pressure (not just for the drivers). Brains overload quickly. Have a solid pre-planned strategy if you wanna get any sleep at all. 3) Don’t shy away from emotion Most short-form is shallow. Being able to truly move audiences is rare. For big moments, go with big feels. The pay-off in fan engagement is unreal. 4) Healthy competition fuels creativity It’s not just millions of fans watching. Every rival social team has got their eyes on you. Use it as fuel to innovate (it’s hilarious how real this gets, my most viral transition was an attempt to rub it in Ferrari’s face) 5) Never underestimate the solo filmmaker They produce what used to take entire crews in a fraction of the time. Seriously, they’re absolute social weapons. If you want your content to keep up, they’re your best bet. 6) Approach lo-fi with caution What you gain in stats, you risk losing in brand image. Don’t fall into the short-term gains trap. Your coverage should reflect your brand first, with an occasional sprinkle of memes. Bonus 7th: A gilet is non-optional. Agree, disagree? Feel free to share your observations from this space, fan or insider perspective. It’s always awesome to hear both takes, considering how much of the sport lives on social today. #SocialMedia #ContentStrategy #Formula1

This is the golden age of fan engagement. Football clubs are in an unprecedented position to connect with fans across all generations. ❗ Social media have become instrumental in achieving this. 👉 Clubs can tailor their communication strategies to resonate with diverse audience segments. ❓ ❓ How can clubs use the various platforms strategically? ✅ TikTok ☑ Utilize youth-oriented language and slang to connect with a younger, trend-following audience. ☑ Discuss popular trends like trap music and gaming to captivate the interest of tech-savvy fans. ✅ Facebook ☑ Engage in conversations about parenthood, showcasing the club's commitment to family values. ☑ Explore the rich history of the club, fostering a sense of nostalgia among long-time supporters. ☑ Highlight city pride to deepen the connection between the club and its local community. ✅ LinkedIn ☑ Showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of the club's city by featuring local business leaders and entrepreneurs associated with the club. ☑ Emphasize the club's role in fostering economic growth and community development. ✅ Twitch ☑ Establish a presence on Twitch, essentially creating a personalized television channel for the club. ☑ Develop ad-hoc programs, including behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with players and fans, and interactive content to engage fans in real-time. ✅ Pinterest ☑ Curate boards displaying the most captivating images of the stadium, capturing the essence and atmosphere during matches. ☑ Showcase products for sale, transforming Pinterest into a visually appealing marketplace. 🔷 Final Thoughts Imagine how much content your club can generate across different platforms. ❗ This multi-platform approach ensures that football clubs can cater to the diverse interests and preferences of their fan base. ❗ Clubs can now foster a deep and lasting connection with fans, ensuring the club's sustained success both on and off the pitch. ❓ On which platform do you follow your club? #footballbusiness #linkedinsports #socialmedia

When I assess team dynamics, I never ask “what’s your communication process?” Instead, I ask: - Who gets to disagree here? - Who offers the ‘obvious’ idea? - Who names the elephant in the room? - And who pushes things forward when no one’s ready? These aren’t personality traits but team conversation roles. And David Kantor’s research shows that high-performing teams cycle through 4 roles in real-time conversations: 1. Initiator - proposes direction 2. Supporter - builds on the idea 3. Challenger - tests assumptions 4. Observer - brings perspective But here’s what’s not obvious: These roles are not titles, archetypes, or fixed styles. They’re functions and they only show up when the team culture allows them. And that’s where 🧠 team psychological safety comes in. When it's high: - The Challenger dares to disagree without fear of judgment - The Observer can name what others avoid without being dismissed - The Supporter feels safe amplifying ideas, not just agreeing - And the Initiator doesn’t dominate out of silence, but lead within dialogue Because effective team communication isn’t about being present in the room and talking. It’s about ensuring the right mix of roles (!) shows up at the right time. P.S.: Which of these roles is missing (or overused) in your team? 📊 Studies: Kantor, 2012; Edmondson, 1999.

Cable TV is dead to young athletes. Only 50% of tweens watch live games anymore. The other half? Living on TikTok and YouTube. This isn't a trend. It's a reset. Gen Z and Gen Alpha don't consume sports. They experience it through screens they control. 85% check social media for sports content weekly. 25% do it every single day. Here's what they actually want: • 30-second trick shots that go viral • Behind-the-scenes locker room access (authentic, not polished) • Motivational clips they can share with teammates • Meme-able moments that feel like inside jokes Your tournament highlight reel on Facebook? Invisible. That same content sliced for Reels? Game changer. Youth sports orgs are responding with "create once, publish everywhere": • Game footage becomes Instagram highlights • Player interviews become TikTok content • Trending sounds amplify organic reach The data backs this shift hard. 90% of Gen Z watches sports content on social. Instagram engagement is 4× higher than Facebook for youth sports. This isn't about chasing trends or vanity metrics. It's about understanding where your community actually lives. The market has shifted beneath our feet. What worked five years ago doesn't work today. What works today won't work in three years. Organizations that adapt will stay relevant to families. Organizations that don't will wonder where everyone went. The message isn't complicated: Meet young audiences where they actually are. Mobile-first. Social-first. Authentic-first. Not because it's trendy. Because it's where the next generation lives. ___________ Follow for youth sports insights, marketing strategy, and what’s working (and what's not) as we build the first +$1B Youth Sports Ecosystem. 👉 Kylee Renouf

One of the biggest challenges in organisations: Communication It comes up as a pain point in almost every employee survey. And most organisations desperately want to fix it. So what do we do? We start: 📣 pushing more info updates. 📣 creating more teams channels 📣 holding more “status update” meetings We work so hard to communicate but 12 months later when we run the survey again there’s no improvement, despite all the ‘comms’. And here’s why: Communication isn’t one sided. It’s a dialogue, not a monologue. When teams say they want more communication they don’t want more status updates or teams channels. They want two way dialogue, with equal parts listening, speaking and understanding. Our people want conversation. They want to: 👉 Be heard 👉 Ask questions 👉Contribute to key decisions 👉 Understand the why behind the what. So if your team is struggling with communication, don’t default to pushing more info updates. Look for opportunities to create two way dialogue. Here’s how: 👉 Invite team members into conversation around key decisions and the strategy. 👉 replace info sharing meetings (that’s an email) with ‘Dialogue, Discussion, Debate’ meetings that facilitate two way communication and honest conversations about key issues. 👉Use your team meetings and one on ones to build shared understanding, ask questions like: “What areas are you lacking clarity at the moment? What’s confusing in our strategy right now? “What communication gaps do we have on our team at the moment and how can we solve them?” #leadership #communication #HR

I watched a team miss a $250,000 opportunity because of a simple communication breakdown As a team dynamic coach working with organizations across industries, I've seen this scenario play out countless times. Recently, a client was struggling to meet client expectations. They had talented individuals, strong expertise, and a clear strategy. Yet something wasn't clicking. After observing their interactions, the issue became clear: they weren't speaking the same language. Their director was focused on timelines and results, communicating in direct, no-nonsense terms. The creative lead communicated through possibilities and relationship-building, often skipping details. Their data analyst shared concerns in complex reports few took time to understand while the client liaison concentrated on maintaining harmony. Different communication styles. Different priorities. All valuable, but completely misaligned. ✅✅ Understanding these four distinct communication styles is transformative for any team: 1. Controllers: Direct, decisive, and results-oriented. They value efficiency and bottom-line impact 2. Promoters: Enthusiastic, imaginative, and people-focused. They thrive on possibilities and building relationships 3. Analyzers: Methodical, detail-oriented, and data-driven. They seek precision and logical solutions, and prefer to thoroughly evaluate before deciding 4. Supporters: Empathetic, patient, and team-focused. They prioritize group harmony and ensuring everyone feels valued. They often ask "How does everyone feel about this approach?" What transformed this team wasn't a new project management system or restructuring. It was awareness of these styles. When I helped them recognize and adapt to these patterns, something remarkable happened. 🌟🌟 The director started providing context behind deadlines. The creative lead documented specific action items. The analyst delivered insights in more accessible formats. The liaison created space for constructive challenges. 🌟🌟 Within weeks, their efficiency improved by 30%. Client feedback turned overwhelmingly positive. And they secured a contract renewal worth three times their previous agreement. This pattern repeats across every successful team I work with. The differentiator isn't talent or resources – it's communication awareness. Understanding your natural style and recognizing others' preferences creates the foundation for exceptional teamwork and professional growth. What's your natural communication style? 🚨 Why Your Smartest Team Members Might Be Staying Silent And What Inclusive Leaders Do Differently Ever noticed a brilliant team member staying quiet in meetings or avoiding eye contact during discussions? You’re not alone—and you’re not imagining it. In multicultural teams, these behaviors are often misread. But they’re rarely about disinterest or lack of confidence. More often, they reflect deep cultural values or concerns about psychological safety. 🧭 But here's the truth: misinterpreting silence or indirect communication can cost your team big—missed insights, lost engagement, and eroded trust. So, what can inclusive, culturally competent leaders do? 🔹 Establish shared communication norms early. Don’t assume everyone shares the same idea of what “good participation” looks like. Talk openly about expectations around eye contact, feedback, and decision-making across cultures. It builds understanding from day one. 🔹 Rotate leadership roles in meetings. Give team members a structured way to lead parts of the conversation. This lowers perceived hierarchy and empowers quieter voices to take the lead—without needing to fight for airtime. 🔹 Offer multiple channels for input. Not everyone thrives in live discussions. Use chat, shared docs, or anonymous tools to gather feedback. It levels the playing field for multilingual, neurodiverse, and introverted team members. 🔹 Check in one-on-one. Private conversations create safety. They invite reflection and reveal ideas that might never surface in group settings. They also show your team that every voice matters—even if it's quiet. 🔹 Model inclusive behaviors. Leaders set the tone. Be the first to admit you don’t have all the answers. Invite dissent. Acknowledge every contribution—spoken or written—with appreciation. Inclusion starts with what you normalize. 🔹 Invest in cultural competence. Learning how culture shapes communication isn’t optional anymore. It’s essential. The more you understand, the better equipped you are to lead with clarity, empathy, and impact. 💡 When you embrace these strategies, you don't just create safer spaces—you unlock hidden potential in your global team. 📞 Ready to explore how to apply these strategies in your own team? 👉 Book your FREE Cultural Clarity Call—you’ll find the link in my profile banner. Let’s turn silence into insight, and difference into strength. #masteringculturaldifferences #communicationstyles #powerdistance #inclusiveleadership #globalteams

❌ A common mistake in live sports and entertainment: thinking the answer is more content. ✅ The real opportunity? Interactive content. Gamification is proving that deeper engagement doesn’t come from flooding fans with videos or posts - it’s about creating experiences they can participate in. I’ve seen first hand how interactive features like predictors, fantasy games, and real-time fan polls can transform passive audiences into active participants. Why this matters: - During live sports events, people using non-betting gamified applications checked the leaderboard up to 10 times throughout the event (Dizplai case study data) - Interactive content creates data rich opportunities for sponsors and rights holders to better understand and serve their audiences. - It’s not just about views anymore - it’s about actions and relationships. The shift is clear: fans don’t just want to watch; they want to play, predict, and shape the event as it happens. If your content strategy isn’t interactive, you’re leaving engagement (and revenue) on the table. We’ve recently published a report on the opportunity, including some fantastic case studies across the world of sports and brand entertainment. Link in the comments for the full report: P.S. If you’re curious about how we’re turning live audiences into communities through gamified experiences, DM me. Let’s talk.
